5 out of 5 stars Skeptical, but now a believer   June 20, 2008
I was very opposed to this collar, as I was afraid that the "shock" was inhumane!!!!!! My dog was only about 15 months old, with a very high drive--she is a standard schnauzer--and her constant barking, jumping up on people, and her inability to obey commands when she was distracted by other dogs was making me crazy. She was becoming very high maintainence, and I knew that if we didn't address it before she got any older, we were in for a pet that was not going to be enjoyable. She went to puppy training and obedience training and did very well as she is an extremely smart breed and she was eager to please us. Unfortunately, that was all short lived if there happened to be a stranger--person, truck, dog, bird, rabbit, etc.--in sight. This collar was purchased as a last resort before spending many more dollars on advanced training in our home. DO NOT HESITATE--BUY IT NOW!!!!! We started using this collar immediately after the charge was complete. After a few days of using the tones only, we used the "shock" once on #3 as she seemed to not feel #1 #2 when she was in a barking frenzy. That was 4 months ago and we never had to use the "shock" again!! It works like a charm!! Now, every time she does any undesirable behavior, we use a 2 word command and the tones and she stops the behavior immediately!! She can wander around without a leash in the front of our house and she listens to all our commands, even with birds, rabbits, people, dogs, etc. around. People that see her without a leash are impressed by her obedience and so are we!!!!!! The collar does not replace hard work and consistency, though, but it has made training much easier and it really hasn't taken her long at all to relate the negative tones with the negative behavior! WELL WORTH THE PRICE!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars yard and park training collar   June 9, 2008
Its GREAT! br /Already use the radial fence so the dog is used to the "warning beeps", because of this the "good dog" sounds do not do any good to her - I reward her verbally and she responds just as happily!

3 out of 5 stars FALSE ADVERTISING.   May 7, 2008

I have another trainer collar for my 65 lb. healer mix. It's a Sport dog collar made by the brand, Innotek. It is what I would classify as "RECHARGEABLE" because the collar itself is what you plug into the charger. You must put batteries in the remote, but I've had the product now for over a year and haven't bought new batteries yet. I just purchased this collar by Petsafe. I have to say, I'm a little Pi**ed off. The collar DOES NOT plug into the charger. It has a little "battery pack" that is housed in a plastic shell which fits into the collar. (Notice, they sell these battery packs on Amazon) Of course, you cannot just go out to the hardware store and buy batteries when the ones you have die, because you have to have the petsafe EXTRA SPECIAL battery thing-a-ma-jigger. Really, it's just another way to rip off consumers since the collar itself is what requires the most juice, I assume I will be needing new batteries quite often. Plus, my collar came with dead batteries. Charming. br /HOWEVER! I am a resourceful and defiant woman so I used my handy dandy hobby snips and a pair of pliers and trimmed off the plastic around the top of the plastic battery housing. I removed the battery and then just to make sure it still worked, popped it back in. Then I went and bought a pack of two standard electronic batteries and put them in. VOILA! F**k off Petsafe! P.S. Don't forget to RECYCLE old batteries, they are extremely toxic!br /BOTTOM LINE: Buy some hobby snips and pliers.br /ANOTHER BOTTOM LINE: Other than an attempt to outwit a goddess of brilliance, Petsafe has made pretty cool little collar. It's the only one that has a 400yd. range and also provides the 'tone only' option. Wonderbar! Buy it! But BEWARE!!!! Dun dun dun dun...

5 out of 5 stars Like a long-range squirt bottle   April 30, 2008
We normally use a squirt bottle to get our dogs attention for training and such when she's in dog la-la land (checking out other dogs, going after a butterfly, etc.) Well, as we're getting more distance, that didn't always work. So, we picked this up and use it on a low stimulation level, if we even use stimulation. Most of the times the correction beeper itself is enough to get her attention. br /br /I know some people perceive electronic collars as cruel, but when she has no apprehension when it is time to put in on so it must not have much of a negative effect on her. br /

4 out of 5 stars Work Great!   April 29, 2008

Would have given it five stars, but I have not had it long enough to go that far. So far it had been great. For those of you who feel it is tough on the dog (as I was concerned) not to worry. The charge is not enough to even make the dog yelp - it is just an attention getter. It is more gentle then some of the choke collars I see people using. The dog learns quick and you don't have to shock them often - there is a warning tone that lets them know it is coming, and that is generally sufficient to get them to come back to you. Great tool - probably saved my dog from getting hit by a car or causing an accident. Worth every penny.br /br /Dan C.
