 Sport Dog Field Trainer - Great Product! June 3, 2008
I purchased this product to deter my dog from jumping the fence and running away. We are with him all the time, but on a rare occassion he would slip away when we weren't looking. The video that comes with the product was so extremely helpful in training our very head strong but loveable 14 month-old beagle, Trooper. We were on the right track but needed some affirmation. Once we leash trained him and trained him off the leash, it was time to use the collar. Because we followed the directions given, Trooper was very happy to put on his collar and training him with the collar has been wonderful. Before, when he would jump the fence, he wouldn't come back right away when we called him. Now, we say: "Trooper, Come!" If he doesn't come, we zap him, only at level one, and he comes running for home. It's really great! Just be sure to do all of the steps instructed on the video first so your dog doesn't become "collar wise" and, instead, thinks the collar is a fun thing!

This is as good as it gets for the price. Don't go for the cheaper petsafe ones. You'll see the quality when it arrives.

My 85 lb. Lab has a tendency to go beserk every now and then, totally out of control. Normally he is well trained, but he has these crazed spells. My vet and I were at wit's end, because when this happens he attacks one of the other dogs and bites it, hard. Since using the collar, only when he's outside with the other dogs, I have been able to reinforce the "NO" command, and he now listens, even when he doesn't have the collar on. This is not the magic way to avoid responsible dog training, but a reinforcement aid for particularly stubborn dogs, mostly to get their attention and let them know that ignoring their trainer has consequences. Not to be taken or used lightly. But it has worked for me. I should add that I work from home, so he has gotten 24 hour supervision. When he goes out he knows we have to put on his "bling", and I take the collar off when he's inside.
The charging system has worked perfectly. One piece of advice- read all directions, watch the DVD, train yourself and do NOT turn the transmitter to anyone who has not done the same! NOT A TOY!!

I am really happy with the product. The instructions were easy to understand and it worked well out in the field. I feel it was a good value. My only complaint is that I never received an email that the product had shipped until I had already received it. I had to call to get a tracking number.

Once I received this and read the training manual, I was afraid to use it in case I blew the training with our dog. The manual is a really good, but intimidating, on getting your dog ready for the collar. Once I began using the collar, and it worked, it made a big difference. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get it to work consistently so sometimes I get a good response and a lot of the time our dog (a7 month old standard poodle) runs away since the collar is not functioning as it should. I've taken the stimulus level to 7 or 8 and it still made no difference and I know that even on 1, when it works, she feels it.
So, I need to find out why it isn't working. I don't think it is the product. It works when I test it in close range.
If I can figure how to make it work consistently, it will be great! It is a good size, waterproof and rechargeable. Something that was important to me since similar products often had the complaint of the batteries running low very quickly.
If I can train myself better on using it, I'll come back and update my review.
