Love the LitterMaid Mega July 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We have two cats and have used the old LitterMaid Mega (with the plastic rake) for about five years. A few weeks ago we put a little too much litter in the box and the wire that follows the rake finally snapped, I read a bunch of reviews online about the new littermaid's with the metal rakes and decided against getting one - my mom also had one it seemed to smell up their spare bathroom more than the older model she had. Anyway so I was excited to find the old model brand new on amazon and immediately ordered it. It just came in today and our household couldn't be any happier, living without it for over 2 weeks was unpleasant to say the least. When I turned it on I noticed the wire didn't completely retract when the rake returned 'home' but I turned it off and on again and the second time it was fine. I'll keep on eye on it but worst case I'll call LitterMaid and they'll replace it - can't remember the exact problem we had with the first maid we bought but we had to return it in two weeks. No worries, their customer service is excellent and second one they sent us lasted 5 years and probably would have lasted longer if we had been more careful about not making the litter levels so high.
In short this is a great product that makes your life easier - it does require some cleaning but nowhere near what a normal litterbox does. A note on the litter - I see a lot of people saying that litter is very expensive for this product and I'm not really sure what that's all about - an employee at PetsMart recommended the ExquisiCat extra strength cat litter (comes in a pink and green bag) when we first got the littermaid because it is 99.9% dust free which helps keeps the sensors clean and that's all we ever used, works like a charm! We get the 40 lb bag for about $5.00 and it lasts 2-3 months! I was amazed at how much money the LitterMaid saved me in litter costs when I first purchased it in 2003, it pays for itself. Truly a great product if you take care reasonable care of it - clean it out every week or every other week and be careful about not putting too much litter in so the rake doesn't have to constantly move back and forth because it's jammed. Happy litterbox shopping!
Litter box review July 4, 2008
I bought two of these. The first lasted about a month, and a wire broke, making it unusable. I bought a second, and it lasted a week and malfuntioned. I called customer support, and got the problem resolved, and it is functioning as advertised now. I feel it works well in automatically disposing of waste, but there seems to be too many small things that go wrong that stop it from functioning all the time.
Coastal Pet Supplies: Great Company July 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There was a problem with my order (not the company's fault). Fed-Ex lost my shipment. When I contacted the company, the president responded and promptly resolved the situation. The litterbox came shortly thereafter. I actually haven't even opened it yet, but I figured I'd give a review about Coastal Pet Supplies-they were great!
Do not buy - unreliable and replacement bins are a rip off!!! June 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I would highly discourage anyone from buying this litter box. We have one cat in our household and have replaced this unit twice in the last 12 months. Not only is the litter box unreliable (gets jammed alot), it stinks (the traditional little box smell is still there), but the replacement containers are like $30 for 12... Thats alot of money for cheap plastic containers if you ask me. Spend a little more up front and save yourself the headache and maintainence costs.. Check out the Litter Robot.. we just bought one and it is awesome.. it uses regualr garbage bags for the litter, does not smell (has an enclosed area for the litter that seals the dirty litter in), and there is no need to buy the $35 "tent" this unit requires to keep the cat from kicking litter out. Or you can waste monty on this unit and I will see your negative review in about 6 months when it breaks... Cheers
Better than newer model June 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought a LM900 when they first came out and my three cats used it untill last year when it finally gave up on me. I was so pleased with the LM900 that I decided to purchase another Littermaid. I found the LME9250, which is the newer model and sounded great. I have had so may problems with the LME9250 that when I found another LM900 on Amazon at a decent price I bought it and love it. I definately recommend the LM900 over the LME9250!
