Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
100% Edible: New Greenies dental chews are 100% edible which means that there isn't anything in it that your dog can't eat and enjoy. Extremely Soluble: New Greenies dental chews are easy to digest and highly soluble (that means that they break down easily in the digestion process). We talked to a lot of nutritionists and scientists and discovered that the key to solubility lies in the proteins used to make the product. We use 4 very high-quality, easily digested proteins as the building blocks of the new chewy recipe: Gelatin Wheat protein isolate Soy protein isolate Sodium caseinate Greenies Large Size are great for Dogs that are 50-100 lbs/22-45 kg.

1 out of 5 stars deadly   June 17, 2008

1.0 out of 5 stars Dangerous and Deadly, May 25, 2006

I have two beagles who love to chew, and greenies are highly compressed which woule make it a good optionfor my dogs. However because they are so highly compressed they are deadly. There is an overwhelming amount of research that proves they are not digestible, and do not break down. Numerous dogs have died from chocking and internal blockages. Luckily this was brought to my attention before I purchased any.

It really doesn't matter how much your dogs like them, statistically you dog would have an excellent chance of becoming seriously injured or worse.

If keeping your dog busy is the goal try a kong or a "busy ball". My dogs play with their kong and similar toys for hours or until they are too tired to play anymore. Additionally some busy balls let you record a message that is played when the ball is moved, even slightly, which also helps with separation anxiety.

If you want to treat your dog to something in the way of food, almost anything you can think of is safer than a greenie.

Also please note....there are many greenie knockoffs. If the treat is shaped and molded or looks like plastic, has fine details showing the company name or other designs, it is in fact a molded treat. Anything this highly compressed is absolutely deadly.

While even rawhide carries some of the same risks because it is so durable...it is a MUCH safer alternative to greenies.

I am actually surprised amazon even sells this product, and would go as far as suggesting to amazon users to petition them to stop selling it.

5 out of 5 stars The dogs LOVE them!   May 29, 2008
My two dogs have loved these things for a few years now. In fact they beg me for one every night. This is clearly the least expensive place to buy them, and PetFood Direct ships them VERY promptly. I've read about the problems some dogs have had, but since my dogs don't gulp them down, and since I'm careful to get the appropriate size for their weights, my dogs have had no problems at all.

3 out of 5 stars My dog eats them like cookies. This is not good.   February 18, 2008

My Chow Chow liked the original greenies and they lasted a long time. These are so soft, he finishes them off in 15 minutes. No health problems because he is an only dog and grinds his treats, rather than gulping. I have switched to Iams Tartar Treats because they last as long as the original Greenies. I do not think these soft new Greenies will pose as much of a health threat. It's a tradeoff. Choking hazards vs hazards of dental work (under anesthesia). Equal danger. Let my dog enjoy himself.

5 out of 5 stars Be careful of size recommendation   December 31, 2007
My dog loves Greenines. He is a 9 lb. mut and we first gave him the small size. He would eat them in a matter of minutes and not completely chew them. One day he gagged on one and threw up. We switched to the Large Greenies, thinking he could chew on them for awahile. He can still consume one of these rather quickly. Be sure you watch your dog with his/her Greenie and take it away when it gets down to a "nub" to be sure your dog stays safe. And be sure you don't get Greenies that are small enough that your dog can eat part of it whole.

4 out of 5 stars An expensive, but safe and well-loved treat.   February 5, 2007

I was worried that my dog wouldn't like the reformulated Greenies as well as the old ones. My pup tells me they're every bit as good as the originals. The new Greenies continue to do an excellent job of cleaning teeth and improving breath. But more than anything, my dog loves them. One of the great joys in his little world is nabbing his Greenie, taking it to the living room rug and plopping down for his treat. High price or not, how can I refuse?
