Product Description 100% Edible: New Greenies dental chews are 100% edible which means that there isn't anything in it that your dog can't eat and enjoy. Extremely Soluble: New Greenies dental chews are easy to digest and highly soluble (that means that they break down easily in the digestion process). We talked to a lot of nutritionists and scientists and discovered that the key to solubility lies in the proteins used to make the product. We use 4 very high-quality, easily digested proteins as the building blocks of the new chewy recipe: Gelatin Wheat protein isolate Soy protein isolate Sodium caseinate Greenies Regular Size are great for Dogs that are 25-50 lbs/11-22 kg.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dangerous and Deadly, May 25, 2006
I have two beagles who love to chew, and greenies are highly compressed which woule make it a good optionfor my dogs. However because they are so highly compressed they are deadly. There is an overwhelming amount of research that proves they are not digestible, and do not break down. Numerous dogs have died from chocking and internal blockages. Luckily this was brought to my attention before I purchased any.
It really doesn't matter how much your dogs like them, statistically you dog would have an excellent chance of becoming seriously injured or worse.
If keeping your dog busy is the goal try a kong or a "busy ball". My dogs play with their kong and similar toys for hours or until they are too tired to play anymore. Additionally some busy balls let you record a message that is played when the ball is moved, even slightly, which also helps with separation anxiety.
If you want to treat your dog to something in the way of food, almost anything you can think of is safer than a greenie.
Also please note....there are many greenie knockoffs. If the treat is shaped and molded or looks like plastic, has fine details showing the company name or other designs, it is in fact a molded treat. Anything this highly compressed is absolutely deadly.
While even rawhide carries some of the same risks because it is so durable...it is a MUCH safer alternative to greenies.
I am actually surprised amazon even sells this product, and would go as far as suggesting to amazon users to petition them to stop selling it.
Greenie dog treats December 12, 2007 Greenies are expensive and you had them at the best price. I will only buy them from Amazon from now on.
Mixed review November 26, 2007 Our dogs LOVE these treats. And we did feel we noticed a difference in how white their teeth were after getting one a day for a few weeks. However after reading about some problems with digestion, I checked with our vet and they said that they can break into small pieces and if the dog gulps it down it can cause intestinal blockage. They don't sell them at our vet's because of this so we are planning to switch to another product. Our dogs will miss them though.
Very Dangerous August 25, 2007 A previous review mentioned the dangers of Greenies. This individual is absolutely correct. There have been innumerable cases of canine illness caused by Greenies some resulting in death and/or an enormous vet bill, all resulting in pain and suffering on the part of the animal. I would strongly urge all readers to take heed of this warning. Furthermore, I am displeased that the company has not, to my knowledge, publicly addressed or apologized for the peril of their product. As a consumer I do not consider it sufficient to "change the formula" without comment on the cause for its reformulation. Please, Please do not give these to your dogs- it is, indeed, a grave risk, no matter what breath-freshening results.
Expensive treats July 21, 2007 I echo the comment that these are expensive treats. Several months ago, we went to Petsmart to buy some only to find out that the store was out of stock. One of the employees said they were "re-formulating" the product. What a joke! When they were back on the shelves, the former regular size was now the large size. And they were more expensive to boot!
