Never have to replace? November 28, 2007 I was told that I would never have to replace the dock because they were made that way. Well, I've replaced two docks five times each in the last six months. The bottom of the dock, where the name is so proudly displayed starts to disintegrate and leaves the water murky and who knows what it's doing to the turtles.
I have the largest dock for two medium sized RES and it completely sinks under them. I have another one for a large sized RES that he's never completely out of the water either.
I'm stuck using them for now, but if someone knows any other docks that actually work, then I'm open to suggestions.
OK for little turtles but much to be desired November 22, 2007 I purchased this floating dock for my two 6 month old sliders. I have the medium size and it is sufficient for now. I forsee having to upgrade to something sturdier within the next year or two though - again the suction cups are very weak and the dock doesn't appear to be able to hold up much weight. A gripe I have with this product is that even after a month of use it continues to "shed" a fine sand like substance. I probably would not buy this product again - a nice natural stone pile that will retain heat will be my next choice.
BEWARE. Sharp metal spikes inside the docks! January 19, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Firstly, this product is useless as is - the dock will not stay above water. You must silicone it to your tank for it to remain stable.
That being said, it is inappropriate for this usage as well. It is made of styrofoam which a turtle with claws will rip apart (and will eat the pieces.) My adult RES broke off the entire corner of the dock and there was a LARGE METAL SPIKE PROTRUDING pointing in the exact direction the turle climbs from. I suppose this is the inner armature - it is not a blunt-edge metal wire, which would be dangerous enough, but a thick VERY SHARP spike. I actually broke skin by touching it while trying to photograph it (sending a letter to the company.)
I consider myself very lucky that my turtle did not impale himself. Stay away from this product. If you would like a ramp, I suggest getting a piece of cork bark and siliconing it to your tank.
Missing Parts Sent and No Response September 9, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I ordered the large turtle dock and did not receive the suction cups or the support bracket. I have emailed the company twice with no response. I have tried to call and I get no where. So for three weeks now, my turles have a raft and float away from the lamp.
sink or swim June 29, 2006 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I too had the opportunity to purchase this "lovely" dock. First let me state that it sunk as soon as my turtles climbed upon it. The suction cups did not hold and the next morning I found it floating upside down with my turtles taking a ride around the tank. Also, within a week I kept finding chunks of "stuff" floating in the tank and blocking the filters. The "stuff" I discovered was pieces of the floating dock. For some reason my turtles feel it is a food item and continue to peck at it. Save your money and your sanity buy something else or make your own dry area.
