Tuff as Nails! August 22, 2008 We, too, have a Jack Russell and, after going through at least $100 dollars in toys advertised as "tough", we stumbled across these and got the medium size chicken and cat. That was five months ago! Monty can chew through "ballistic" strength nylon, but he's not been able to destroy these tough toys. Now, he did manage to kill the squeaker on his red rubber chicken (medium size)and he chewed off part of a leg, but in spite of that, he prefers his chicken over the Ruffian "Cat", whose squeaker still works. Nothing works better to keep him occupied for an hour or so, and what fun to play fetch with!
I highly recommend these toys.
My dog Loves This!!!!! July 11, 2008 I bought this after I bought Good and Bad Cuz for my dog for Christmas. This toy amuses my dog for HOURS--and even if the squeaking is a little annoying, just seeing his tail wagging whenever he sees this toy is worth it. Be sure you get the correct size. I bought a medium for a minature dachshund. If you get it too small, it easily rolls under furniture.
One more thing--it's virtually indestructable!
Not for Aggressive Chewers March 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My dog, a Scottish Terrier, completely chewed the entire leg (not just the round bit, the entire leg) off this toy in a matter of an hour. It became lodged in his intestine and almost cost him his life - it was removed through emergency surgery. Normally, I would say to please, please give this toy to your dog under supervision ONLY, but not this one. It was demolished so fast that I had NO time to notice until it was too late. If your dog is an aggressive chewer, with strong jaws, please consider another toy.
Taz says "Thanks, Mom!!!" February 19, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought one of these toys locally yesterday, and I have rarely seen a dog so captivated by a toy as my Jack Russell Terrier is with his new chicken!!! Unlike a lot of JRTs, he tends to lose interest in his toys after a few throws or chewing on them for a few minutes, but he will sit and squeek this thing for an hour at a time. And if I forget to pick it up when he is done playing with it (playing with toys is a reward in our house - just to make sure Taz knows who's alpha around here), he'll grab it when I answer the phone just to make a nuisance of himself and get attention. He absolutely loves that he can control the sound and volume of the squeek, and he'll vary between an all-out squeal and a little "ruh-ruh-ruh" laugh out of it. This is possible because the whole body is the squeeker, unlike other toys where the bladder of the squeeker is inserted into the toy.
This little guy seems really durable, but I'm definately going to have to get a replacement while I still can, just in case Taz does manage to destroy it (anyone who has been around a JRT with a toy knows what I mean).
The chickens at the store where I bought ours had two different types of squeaks - one is the same type as you'd think of with a squeaky toy, only louder, and the other is kind of like a duck. I don't know what type of squeak the ones for sale here have. I bought the latter, and the smaller turtle with the same sound. Taz doesn't like the turtle as well, because even though it's easier for him to carry around, there is less air in the body and it takes more effort and finesse to get it to make the sound, and he sees it more as a throw toy than a squeaky.
Wow!!! December 18, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My boarder collie lives and breathes by this little chicken. She is barking at me right now to throw it again. I need to get a replacement, although I do not think I will need to as these things are super tough. If your dog likes squeaky toys to fetch this one is Lucy's favorite.
