Not for larger yards August 11, 2008 After our city dogs escaped numerous times from their new 5.5-acre yard in the country, and after almost losing one to a rattlesnake bite, we decided drastic measures were in order. We bought this item, but it created too small an area for our dogs. They could not go into several of their favorite spots in the yard. Amazon was not willing to do anything about the return or exchange of the product because it took us longer than the return period to get it set up in the first place. But, Petsafe was AWESOME at exchanging the system for the wired version! I highly recommend the brand, given the customer service they provided. They made sure we had a fence we were happy with, and even express delivered the right system when we were sent the wrong one as a result of a miscommunication. We used zip ties to attach the wire to our existing wire fencing, and were able to cover 5.5 acres in less than a day! We love it! Our pups only got shocked twice before they decided never to try escaping again. We have been escape-free for 8 months now, and they never even test the boundaries any more.
works great! August 11, 2008 We have had this system for a couple of weeks now. I bought it for my one-year-old yorkie-poo. I was a little concerned about the size of the collar (she is only 9 pounds); but it does not seem to bother her. She learned really quickly (within a couple of days) and then she was ready to go out without a leash. She only had to get shocked twice before she learned where the boundaries are. This was well worth the extra money (vs a cheaper in-gound fence) because we did not have to dig up the yard to install it. It makes a nice circle around the house and encompasses the entire front yard and most of the back yard, plenty of running room for a little dog. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for such a device.
Unreliable July 30, 2008 We purchased the wireless pet containment system for our two dogs when we moved into our new home. In our previous home we had the wired system and never had any problems (other than occasionally breaking the wire when planting shrubs). The wireless system we have found to be very unreliable. Signal is not consistent, vehicles interfere with signal and the collar transmitters wear out much too quickly. The company gives us a hard time replacing the collar even though it should be under warranty. We've replaced two of them already. We've had the wireless in place for two years now but will be purchasing wired containment system very soon, as the collars again need replacing and this time are out of warranty period. It is less expensive for us to replace whole system than to keep purchasing collar transmitters.
Great product July 18, 2008 This was the best investment I made for the safety of my dog work's perfect, you have to follow the direstions like it advertises. But it does the job.
Trained in a few days July 17, 2008 I was desperate to contain my dog but couldn't spend a lot on an inground fence. I read all of the reviews for this product and purchased at a Home store. I was Very Very happy with the ease of set up and training. It took me awhile to get the perimeter just right. As it is a circle, I do have spots where it goes into my neighbors yard. Training was easy. I followed the instructions and trained her on a leash. I let her go, closed my eyes, and hoped for the best. She ran to the front porch when ever she got shocked. It didn't take long for her to get it! I also trained my moms dog too. My mom's dog comes over for weeks at a time and we just purcased an additional collar for her. She is a lab and a little harder to train (I had to put her level of shock up a few notches)She cried when she got shocked the first time and kept going deeper into the shock zone. I had to spend more time with her then my dog, but she too figured it out quickly. She ran for the porch as well when the beeping started. My dog rarely wears her collar anymore and will not leave the yard. If she does we just put it on her for a few days as a reminder. The battery life is short, I buy extras. I take the unit with me to friends. Chloe runs in the yard, and then runs for the house, or to me, when she hears the beeping. A Great Product! Now to take care of that barking!
