The best Pet/Baby Gate, EVER! September 1, 2008 I can honestly say that this is the best pet (baby in this case) gate I have ever seen, touched or used. It is secure, opens, closes and locks easily, looks great, and is very functional. This is the wider version of this gate. I also own the narrow version which is installed elsewhere in my house, and much prefer the larger one in the wider door/hall ways. This larger one I use at the enterance to my kitchen/living room from the front family/game room. It is more convenient being wider because it is easier to get groceries and such though without having to shuffle through the gate sideways. Great item!
Love the Doggie Gate! August 1, 2008 This gate is perfect for what we needed...easy to install and does the trick and looks nice too.
Looks great! July 8, 2008 This pet gate looks and functions great, we were using those ugly plastic baby gates and having to step over them all the time, and take them down to let the dogs through them put them back up.... Now we just have to open the door and we can leave the gate up all the time. We ordered two of these gates, on one of them the locking mechanism on the handle was broken, so I called up Richell and they sent me another handle no questions asked and it arrived withing a week.
Very nice gate May 17, 2008 This is actually my second Richell One-Touch gate. I previously had the smaller version but it had been broken during a move so I decided to get this one. One serious word of caution... follow the advice of a previous reviewer and measure your doorway carefully. This gate only fits specific widths and doesn't allow for much adjustment in between. I was lucky that it just barely fit my doorway in our new house.
That being said though, it really is a nice gate. The wood makes it look so nice. Looks more decorative than your traditional gate.
One problem I had was that one of the little plastic pieces (the piece on the bottom of the door that grips the base of the gate to hold it closed) was broken. Thankfully it was easy to fix with super glue but I worry that it won't hold. Just don't want to go through the trouble to send it back if I can help it. So far it seems to be doing ok.
What I like most is that the bars are spaced close together so that little pups can't get their heads through and possibly get stuck. I have two chihuahuas, one of which loves to climb or try to squeeze through things. This gate works out very well with both of them.
Better than I expected March 25, 2008 Don't panic when you pull it out of the box; it looks like it's not square but that's to allow tension so it fits tight when it's installed against the door jamb. I'm embarassed to say that it's nicer than I expected (why did I spend so much if my expectations were low?) but it is. Only the middle part is wooden but the entire gate looks nice and fits in well with my wood floor and furniture. Best of all, it really is a smooth one-touch operation and it easily locks back into place when you close the gate. It's a bit heavy and takes a few minutes to install so it's not as portable within the house as I imagined, but I like it enough that I don't see a big need to take it down for company.
One of my cats can jump over it; the other cats and the dogs are securely contained behind it.
