5 out of 5 stars Wires? We Don't Need to Show You No Stinking WIRES   July 4, 2008
Two words: Jack Russells! A freedom loving, free range aspiring, breed that has been known to throw themselves through screen doors, eat their way through drywall and tunnel-not feet but yards-in order to evade incarceration. I have two (OK this is NOT a review of my sanity)! They both have both "run through" the in-ground wired containment system when it was fully deployed. Once outside the containment they have been resistant to return, knowing that they would be "jolted" for the second time upon their return. My PetSafe Wireless system is superior in every way. Set-up, control of strength of "discouragement" and the 25 second "encouragement" to return to the "safe zone" all make this a dream for the "born to run" Jack owner.
Three caveats: 1. The collar receiver is considerably bigger than its in-ground wired version. On a small breed you wonder if its a "burden." (My boys don't seen to notice.) 2. The snap style collar that came with the system came un-snapped during a daring under-the-fence escape by my elder Jack and of course the containment was rendered null and He voided the yard. 3. The containment area is 360 degree circular and may not conform exactly to the specific area you need to contain the dog in.

5 out of 5 stars works better than my old buried wire system   July 3, 2008
I had both a chain link fence and a buried-wire Innotek system. When enticed by a fleeing squirrel or bunny, my 25 lb. border collie mix (Lucy) would occasionally run through the shock fence and jump over the chain link fence. Lucy hasn't left my yard since I installed the wireless fence a month ago. The fact that she can no longer dash through the shock field but keeps getting shocked until she returns has made a huge difference. I had read some customer reviews of the wireless system that mentioned unexpected collar activations inside the house. I had experienced this problem with my old buried wire system. With that system, the collar would beep occasionally when my dogs got close to TVs or computers. My dogs have, consequently, been scared of TVs for years. Now that I've used the wireless system for about a month, the dogs will actually sit with me when I'm watching TV. Hurray!

5 out of 5 stars PetSafe Wireless Instant Fence   March 18, 2008
We've had this wireless fence for our labrador retriever for couple years and it works great for us. An excellent alternative to in-ground wire systems. Contrary to what the manufacter says, the unit works absolutely fine on our very sloped lawn, with being installed at the level of the top block of basement wall.

5 out of 5 stars Should have bought one years ago   August 8, 2007

My wife an I were convinced to purchase the wireless containment system (we call it the 'zapper') by our neighbor. She has a very active golden retriever named Cindy who was always running out of their yard. That is, until they bought one of these. After about a week of having a 'zapper' Cindy was behaving wonderfully. She would go right to the edge of her yard and stare longingly at my kids playing ball 10ft away from her, but she would not cross over into our yard. Amazing!

We also have a dog who is a 'runner'. If our dog, Fenway, ever got out the door without a leash on he was off to the races. After seeing how effective the 'zapper' was with Cindy we decided to get one for Fenway. The first couple of days we were starting to regret our decision a bit because Fenway was NOT happy about the mysterious zaps he was getting. He got so freaked out about it that we literally had to drag him off the back porch because he was terrified of getting zapped in the yard.

However, we have now had the zapper for almost a month and we couldn't be happier with it. We spent the first week training Fenway and showing him around his new boundaries. He is now loving his new found freedom! He no longer is bound by a leash or a run in the back yard. He is free to run and frolic anywhere within his boundaries. We have looked at each other a few times and asked why we didn't get one of these earlier. It is making our lives and Fenway's life much happier.

We also looked at the invisible fence products, but we felt that this one was a better idea. The major problem we were concerned about with the invisible fence is that once your dog has broken through the 'zap zone' he is home free. With this product, the dog keeps getting zapped until he comes back into the safe zone. The only drawback to this product is that the 'safe zone' is circular only. This wasn't a problem for us because have a large back yard and could comfortably use the full 90ft radius. However, if you have an oddly shaped or long, thin yard you won't get the maximum benefit of this system.

In short, I LOVE this product and highly recommend it!
