1 out of 5 stars overpriced piece of junk   September 15, 2007

What a piece of junk this is. When I tried to assemble mine, I found that all the holes were 1/4" off... it was impossible to assemble as was. Only after I re-drilled all the holes could I put it together. Then, the thing is made of such thin plastic it's just plain flimsy. Before I put it in the ground, the top wouldn't stay closed because the little plastic catch wasn't "just right". After I put it in the ground, the top doesn't close easily anymore because it warped a little. Note that I didn't compact the soil, the unit just warped due to the weight of the soil. It's that flimsy.

Only in hindsight do I realize what a gimmick this product is. The idea is sound, but you can do it yourself for a fraction of the cost. Go to your nearest hardware store and buy a small, galvanized steel trash can for maybe $10. Cut the bottom off and bury it. Buy some some septic tank mixture while you're at it. You'll have the exact same thing, but it will be cheaper, easier to install, sturdier, and longer-lasting. Consider yourself warned.

1 out of 5 stars One of the Worst Designed Products I've Ever Purchased   September 14, 2007

All you get with this product is a $5 plastic box to sit over a hole in the ground and a bag of digester. But it gets worse--the user is supposed to dig a hole in the ground, put the droppings and digester powder in it, and fill it up with water on a daily basis. But--duh!!--any hole in the ground which is filled with water on a daily basis is going to eventually fill up with dirt washed from the sides. Mine lasted about two months before the hole had filled in. What a stupid idea!

4 out of 5 stars Great Concept Needs Further Instruction   May 16, 2007

This product is great in concept. The design is a bit flimsy. Two things I have noticed: #1) You don't need the "special enzyme"...for a while I switched to rid-x (at big box home stores, designed for septic tanks and looks EXACTLY like the stuff supplied)...but got to thinking there is already bacteria in the dog waste. #2) Get one of those brass hose nozzles that creates a powerful spray. After ours became dangerously full, and some waste looking like it did the day I put it in weeks before, I tried out the nozzle and voila...churned into a nasty but effective sludge. Lessons: nature and mechanical mixing is better than the expensive compound. Lastly, this could be easily and cheaply replicated with one of those extra tall buckets (like the 5 gallon paint buckets but taller ~ 7.5 gallons) and cutting the bottom off...the trick would be to then rig an easy to use foot operable lid...because when this sucker works right it stinks (but not when the lid is closed). Overall great concept.

3 out of 5 stars Great concept, marginal quality   September 15, 2006

This is a great concept for disposal of dog waste. The product however, could definitely be a little more sturdy. On the first attempt to bury the container I was filling in the dirt around the sides - I tried to gently tap down the dirt with my foot, only to smash in one side of the container. I dug it back out, fixed the side, and tried again. The second time I did not bother to try to pack dirt around it, just lightly drop the dirt in. The weight of the dirt, however, was enough to skew the frame of the container such that the top is no longer squared, and thus the plastic lid does not close tightly or stay down. This has been solved by placing a brick on top. If the container was a bit heartier neither of these problems would have occurred.

With that said, this is still the best solution I've seen to dog waste disposal.
