3 out of 5 stars Strange, and a pain, but it DOES cut down on tracking   September 24, 2008
Some very odd decisions must have gone into the design of this box, I've had it for three weeks and am finally getting kind of used to it, but am still curious as to why so many aspects of this thing are so obviously flawed.

First, it DOES cut down on the kitties tracking litter out of the box and onto the floor. Somehow the little staircase traps the loose litter before they leave the box. It may just be a result of the fact the entrance is so set back in the box, that when they scratch or shake off, it happens away from the door.

However, those same stairs are contoured in such a way that it is impossible to clean the loose litter from them without lifting and tilting the whole bottom tray into the trash. This can only be done with an empty box. Vacuuming works, but only if there is no wet mess.

Also, it's called a "Jumbo" box, but because it is round and the stairs carve out about a third of the footprint, it's much smaller than other jumbo litterboxes.

The roundness is handsome, and although the thing looks big, it is prettier than your average litterbox. I think the same thing could have been accomplished with a squared-off box. This would make it MUCH easier to scoop or get a snug liner in there, because this thing is almost impossible to scoop cleanly. The liner bunches up in the rounded "corners" and doesn't really fit too well to begin with. I am using Booda liners, and they are curiously loose even when I use the "clip" inside the box. Having a square or rectangular base would also make this thing bigger inside which would be nice.

As I noted, it's not all bad, and the good is enough to bump this thing up to three stars, and I would think it would be great if you only had one cat...

PROS:
cool looking
hidden litter
good filter
little/no litter tracking
little/no leakage from the space between the lid and base

CONS:
large
holds less litter than similarly sized rectangular boxes
liners don't fit snugly (much worse than regular boxes)
difficult to clean
can't lift the entire box using the handle (only the lid)
expensive

5 out of 5 stars Shoulda bought 2   August 18, 2008
I purchased the Booda Dome 5 months ago because my elderly cat kept peeing over the edge of the box. My cat loves the privacy of the box, not to mention it's easier for her to get into, she doesn't have to jump. I love it because it does contain the litter (aside from the entrance, but the amount you have to clean is minimal) and it cuts down on the smells. It doesn't completely contain the stinky ones (but I don't think there's anything that can cover up those). She was recently diagnosed with Kidney Disease so we bought another litterbox so she would have the convenience wherever she is in the house. I put the Booda Dome in the living room so when company comes, they don't have to see the litter in the litterbox, and the cheap one in our room where she stays most of the time. I wish I had bought another Booda though, cause the litter around the box is a mess on the carpet after shes been scratching. And, if she's up and moving around, (even if she's in our room) she'll go out to the living room to use the Booda.

5 out of 5 stars Don't buy this from Amazon.   July 18, 2008
We have this litter box purchased from another vendor, We tried to buy another from Amazon. They shipped us a book instead. I had a horrible time straightening this out and ended up cancelling the order after many difficulties. We never received it.

4 out of 5 stars Great, but a couple things to watch for   June 5, 2008

This is a great box and I second all praise in the other reviews. The bullets points of my personal experience are:

* Our 14 pound, taller than average, cat fits fine.

* However, the lid doesn't lock well and our cat used to knock the lid off.

* I now slip a 2.5 pound weight under the lid handle and it stays on fine.

* My cat can fling litter around like crazy without making a big mess.

* However, he still manages to track some of his Feline Pine out of the box. Booda's fancy stairs catch some but not all.

* The box keeps the stink in pretty well, which is good and bad. We have to remind ourselves to change the box. It won't stink on the outside but can be totally rank on the inside. If we forget to change it, our cat won't brave the stink inside and will use something else.

* Most liners won't fit this box. We buy the Booda brand made for this box.

* We only change the carbon filter around twice per year. The filter does do something, but not so much that it's worth changing all the time.

Overall, I join in with those who've said I would definitely buy this box again.

Cats love the Bodda! Make sure you get the liners that are for the specfic model. Any others don't fit. It is also larger than I thought It would be. I have room but you might reconsider if you have a small apt.
