This is the lowest price I've found these for--they're much pricier at my local pet store. I bought a bunch at once to make it worth the shipping cost, so they came out to about $0.60 a bag.

I have had 5 littermaid boxes since they were first released years ago and this box is better than they were, not that it is the answer. First you cannot use much litter, keep it to the minimum line and it helps. I have found the rake catching on the liner and am going to try taping it down, or just go without a liner. My husband really likes this box, I am less impressed. The technology is improving but still has a long way to go. If you don't mind daily scooping, save the money. If you want an automated box, I would recommend this one over the littermaid.

I spend 10 times as much time dealing with this useless piece of junk as I did with a regular old box where I just scooped it out every morning. I tried several kinds of litter, all premium scoopable litter, and had the same problem every time.
I learned that you must never fill it higher than 1" BELOW the fill line. If you do, it will jam up every time until after a week of you scooping it out and cleaning it by hand, the litter will be low enough so that the rake will go through it.
The top of the rake hits the edge when dropping down from from dumping the clumps and it will keep going back and forth and back and forth until it just gives up because it can't get past the lip on the lid and the little red light flashes.
It went off one time while my cat was in it (I happened to actually witness this.) Scared the cat obviously. Well, within a month or so I started noticing a cat piss odor. This wasn't unusual since the box only works once out of maybe 10 times it tries to rake the litter, when I noticed a wet spot in a rug. Not just any rug, a 1920s Berber dowry rug that was handwoven and a family heirloom that originally came from Gump's. The dye in the rug ran and the stain is permanent. THEN I started checking other places, the cat had also pissed down the sides of a black leather L'Corbusier chair that had cost $2,500.
I have two cats and have NEVER had them go to the bathroom anywhere other than the litter box until I brought this malfunctioning piece of junk into the house. So now I have TWO litter boxes. I had to bring the old one back in from the garage for the cat that it went off on and scared. I left this one for the other cat. And it still doesn't work properly.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

I love this litter box. I have tried MANY automatic boxes, and this is by far the best. I have to agree with the others who say it is expensive to maintain. Once you figure out how to put the waste bag in, it is VERY easy and CLEAN! The liners run $5+ dollars, but you only have to replace the liner about once a month. I recommend using it on a hard floor surface, as I had a little trouble when I moved it to a carpeted floor.
