Worked like a charm for us! July 14, 2008 My wife had wanted a dog very badly but we live in a condo and we are gone for 8 hours a day during the week. I told her we couldn't have one unless we could find an indoor bathroom solution that wouldn't either ruin our floors or make our house smell. I evaluated the other products that catch the urine underneath fake grass or the pads and I wasn't impressed. I decided that the secondnature product looked like it might actually work so I decided to give it a try.
We adopted a 9 week old Boston Terrier. The first bathroom trip using the litter box was the hardest. She had several accidents in the house and we just kept bringing her to the box but she didn't understand. Finally, we fed her, gave her water, and the three of us sat in the bathroom together with the door closed until she went in the box. She slowly started getting it and we had her making it to the litter box during the day time more frequently than not making it to the litter box by day 3. I have to admit that I didn't think it would go that fast.
Now, she is 13 weeks old and goes in the litter box almost all the time without us telling her. We had a setback last weekend when we took her to my parents house overnight and left the litter box at home. We had accidents the first couple of days at home but then we got her back onto using the box. This weekend, we took her overnight again but brought the box with us. We haven't had any problems since we've been home. We still give her a treat any time she uses the litter box and we are home.
She sleeps at night in a crate in our bedroom and is currently waking up once a night to go to the litter box. We carry her down the stairs to the box and place her about 5 feet away from it. She finds her way in without any problems. The next step will be for her to get big enough that she won't get up during the night and will walk down the stairs on her own to use the box in the morning.
We have been leaving her alone for 2-4 hours during the day in a blocked off area that includes her litter box. She has been using the litter box when we are gone for about the last week or so. Prior to this time, she would pee in the box but poop on the floor.
I highly recommend this product to anyone else that needs an indoor potty solution for their dog. The instructions on their website give you good instructions on teaching your dog to use the box.
Great product for in home house training July 9, 2008 I kept my 9 wk old Lab pup confined to the kitchen where the floor was an easily cleaned tile until she was reliably house trained (about 5-6 mos.)I used "Nature's Miracle" or hydrogen peroxide on any offending spot after cleaning to insure the accident didn't broadcast radio waves that here was a good spot to pee on again. I bought the largest "Second Nature" dog litter tray to use in the kitchen. There was no easy, quick access to the outside from the kitchen at that time and I didn't want to carry a dribbling puppy over a babygate, across a carpeted floor, and out the front door. By the time we got outside, all the dribble stuff would've been drained. While Purina $ell$ a litter (similar to cat litter) and ab$orbent pad$ to place in the tray to pick up urine, I found yesterday's newspaper, a few sheets at a time, satisfactory. Being retired and with my pup almost constantly, whenever I saw her tail go up and starting to squat (to pee) or her back arch with her back & front legs X'ed, I'd whisk her to the tray and reward (treat & praise) for any deposits she made there (cleaning up any misses as previously mentioned). It did not take long before she was seeking out the tray on her own. (Treat & praise.) Although some dog owners are vehemently opposed to any other potty training except outside on grass, it worked fine for us and we didn't have the slightest problem switching to going on grass outside. Peeing is more frequent and less routine than pooping. E,g,, it's used to reply to pee-mail messages dogs encounter on walks and send their own. Pooping tends to occur at certain times after eating; exercise (playing, chasing a ball) hastens it. I marked down the times at which my pup pooped and tried to be more alert around those times either to whisk her to the tray when she was younger or, when older, take her out just before. As she matured, her poop-time ruts changed and I revised her schedule periodically and tried to follow it. (Her current rut, for many years, is to poop & pee at 7 AM, 2 PM, and 10 PM.) Since those first 7 months, Puff does all of her pottying outside. Her old litter tray has been thoroughly washed and now, with a pillow in it, serves as her dog bed inside her open crate (she's 63 lbs. and can coil herself to a small profile).

Nice Pan, Not Just for Dogs March 3, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The product is for dogs, but we purchased three of these for our cats, primarily because our oldest cat wasn't able to get into the standard cat pans because the walls were too high. We took the flaps out so he could just walk into them instead of jumping. It worked well. The only problem was that the low wall where the flap had been didn't keep litter contained very well, so litter got on the floor pretty easily, but that's to be expected.
These are sturdy and should last a long time.
An AHA moment January 31, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Dog is using this for naptime with a blanket because he couldn't stand the feel of the litter under his feet. He does seem to have sensitive feet though.
