5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!   August 15, 2008
Our cat had no trouble adjusting to the new litter box. We put a little bit of his old litter in, which did cause more of the litter to get pushed into the trap door. My husband stirs the litter about twice a week. We've been using it for almost a month and are very satisfied. We just got a new kitten and were told he cannot use an automatic litter box until he weighs at least five pounds.

4 out of 5 stars I rated the Scoop Free Litter Box a 4, but when used with the "Forever Litter Tray", it then becomes a 5   August 11, 2008

I found the Scoop-Free litter box to be the most reliable on the market. The mechanism seems to work fine without getting stuck like some other self-cleaning boxes, most likely due to the use of the crystal litter. My only complaint, which seems to be the majority of complaints on this product, is the fact that the you had to purchase the refills on-line and that you have to throw away the whole kit & kaboodle. I never could understand why they didn't devise this system with a permanent tray instead of the cardboard box system. That way, you would only have to purchase the litter (which should be less expensive). Then.....lo and behold.....I found this site on ebay for the "Forever Litter Tray" and decided to order one.....Well, let me tell you.....it's fantastic. This guy is a genius....The permanent box fits perfectly under the original system and now all I have to do is empty it and refill it with Fresh Step Crystals which I found at WalMart. I purchased an 8 lb. bag which can be a bit pricey too; however, I do not have to order the refill trays on-line anymore and the 8 lb. bag seems to last twice as long as what comes with the original system. So...hats off to the inventor of the "Forever Litter Tray. Try it....you'll love it!

2 out of 5 stars After months of use, this one is going to go   August 6, 2008
I really liked this box at first except for the expensive cartridges. I solved that by purchasing a permanent plastic one and buying bag crystals. I am disappointed by the smell. It doesn't do any better than a regular box and is a problem to clean if pee goes down the side. I have tried other suggestions to stop this but it is too much of a hassle to keep clean after awhile. Also, the poop sticking in the metal rake is a real pain. I also have a problem with the lid wanting to come loose and flip off the box. This in turn causes the smell to be even stronger than having the cartridge and box lid to block the odor. My final problem is the size. I have a 8 pound, 17-year old cat and this thing is HUGE. It takes up much more space than I would like and it has caused her side peeing problem to be worse. I think that is related to the box being too large for her.

5 out of 5 stars The automatic litter box I've been waiting for!!   August 2, 2008
I have owned a few other automatic litter boxes before this one and I have never been so happy with one like this. So far it's been the cleanest, easiest and most reliable cat box I've ever owned.
Like I've read in other reviews, maybe it's only downfall is how expensive the cartridges are but the fact that it is so much easier to change, cleaner to handle, the smell is almost completely contained definately makes up for it to me.
I would 100% recommend this litter box to anyone who love their cats but hates the chore of changing the litter box!

2 out of 5 stars Not for large or older cats!   July 31, 2008
We "inherited" my daughter's cat when she found a roommate with a dog. Not enjoying the task of cleaning the litter box I went in search of something else. I have to agree with all of the reviews that say feces gets stuck on the rake, behind the rake and on the holding compartment. Also after the cat saw the rake moving in the box and the loud noise it made we started having problems with him urinating on the furniture. I think it basically just scared him and was far too small for a 12 pound cat. With the hood on we also found that every flying insect in the house was attracted to the smell and that made it even more disgusting to have to clean it out. I am out a lot of money since I bought a 6-month supply of refill cartridges for a system our cat won't use. I thought about mixing the crystals with our regular litter to at least be able to use it up, but the other reviewers are also correct about that. The crystals don't adhere well to the excrement and go all over the floor leaving a bad smell since there isn't enough of the clumping litter to cover the job. Don't waste your money unless you have a kitten that will grow into a small cat.
