So far, I can't get my cats to use it. I'm not emptying their old boxes and I've dumped a box of cat genie litter into their old boxes but nobody seems to want to use the new box.

Overall I'm happy with our Cat Genie. It has taken most of the unpleasantness out of having a cat. We have noticed the problem with small pieces of excrement falling into the litter and it getting baked. The odor from the baking poo mixed with the perfumed sanitation fluid can be pretty unpleasant. The odor does dissipate shortly after the drying cycle has completed. Even with the baked poo problem the Cat Genie is a pleasanter alternative to the constant odor emulating from the old type litter pans. We haven't had any other problems with the unit in the few months we've had it. I would buy it again.

Life before CatGenie:
We have 3 adult cats, two of which are what I would refer to as "heavy users" of the litter box. Our litter box maintenance was a nightly event and we could barely go in the room the litter box was in due to the smell. We were also spending about $13 a week on litter and that was even scooping so the expense was definitely an issue.
CatGenie implemented and now 30 days later:
I set up the CatGenie in about 30 minutes. It only took this long because I am not very handy so the toilet water source work took a little extra effort. If I had to do it again I'd probably get it done in 15 minutes. I have used one full cartridge now since I set the CatGenie to run 3 times a day since I have 3 cats and this seems to be a perfectly fine schedule thus far. The cartridge lasted about 20 days which is right on the estimates CatGenie provides.
My cats adjusted to the catbox in about 2 days. Basically I took the provided instructions for how to acclimate the cats to the CatGenie, followed them closely, and my cats were totally cool with the new unit.
This product has given me back a bathroom in my house and has given me about 10 minutes of my day back as well (and that 10 minutes definitely sucked before). I have not experienced any clogging or anything like that. The only thing that drives me a little nuts is that one of my cats is a digger so she likes to throw the pellets out of the box. I have not tried the side wall units but it seems worth a shot.
I have told all my cat owning friends about this device and they are going out and buying one for their home. Honestly this device is a steal for the money and it is hands down the best cat waste control system I've used (and I've used most of them). See for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

This product is awesome! I've had it for a year with two really fat and lazy cats. We hardly ever touch the thing now. It's set up in our laundry room with the hose going down the laundry drain. If you live in a small apartment this thing is much louder and takes a lot longer to clean than the other self-cleaning cat boxes out there.
PROS:
- It's as if you don't have a litter box anymore.
- The plastic litter doesn't track around the house as much as regular litter.
- You cats don't smell anymore. Cats are clean animals. Take away the dirty litter box and they don't smell. I haven't had to bathe my cats in a year.
- Makes the house smell like you're doing laundry when it cleans itself.
CONS:
- It's loud
- It takes a very long time to clean itself (feels like 10-20 mins)
- You're locked in to getting the cleaning solution all the time
- OH YEAH....it makes a really annoying Beeping sound when the cleaning solution runs out. Not very good when you're out of town and your neighbors hate you when you get back (four days of constant beeping)
So you know...
The thing WILL NOT WORK if the cleaning solution runs out
There is no way that i know of to "hack" into the cleaning solution
canisters and refill them.
OVERALL:
As long as you make sure to always have full cleaning solution packs on hand and set it to clean only once a day when you go away it is 100% perfect.

For years I have had a Littermaid. They last about 3 years before you have to replace them. This year I substituted the catgenie in place of the Littermaid. It has been WONDERFUL! I do not have the litter mess and the smell of the deodorizer sweetens the air when it cleans. I have just gone through my first 6 month cleaning on it and true to form it was easy and done within 15 minutes. The cats took awhile to accept it but now they seem to go to it rather than outdoors. I would recomend this product to anyone who has a cat and wants a clean experience in the area that kitty does business!
