Turned bad kitties into little furry angels September 27, 2008 In the past several months, my 2 kittens seemed obsessed with getting behind my tv and entertainment unit. Nothing I did would deter them and I tried many things: using a deterrent spray that supposedly smelled bad to cats (the kittens loved it), double-stick tape (the kittens played with the tape), shaking a can of pennies (which they ignored totally) etc etc. I was at my wit's end and decided to try the Ssscat kit.
I set it up behind the TV without the cats seeing me... and then I waited for the inevitable. Sure enough, one kitten sauntered back there and PPSSSSHHHT! The kitten took off running. Not long after kitten #2 went back there -- with the same result.
That was pretty much all it took. While one kitten was braver (which resulted in spraying no. 2), within 1 day, the kittens seem to have utterly lost interest in going behind there. They aren't afraid of the area either, but just choose not to bother going back there.
This product is amazing. I'm planning on getting another to keep the cats off the counter-tops!
My only complaint is that it was a bit tricky to set up. I fastened the canister of air to the top and wasn't sure it was on at first. I had to take it off and put it back on before it would trigger. I think an indicator light showing it's on and the canister is set properly would be very useful.
Pure genius September 16, 2008 In short, it's genius because:
- IT JUST WORKS. - It does not harm the cat in any way
Only (minor) downside: - People trigger it more often than the cat!

Ok, so I have a lovely black cat. She purs. She plays. And she used to pee.
For 2 months after my boyfriend moved in, the cat peed EVERYWHERE. Anywhere he'd sit would be the next litter spot. She'd be litter trained without fault for 2 years, so that wasn't the issue. Of course, I took her to the vet - twice. $200 a pop. The result? She's not sick. She's just jealous. Great.
It got to be so bad, that I would go do laundry of the couch cover, and before I got back in the living room, she'd already peed on the replacement. I tried scotch tape, I tried strong scent to deter her, I tried putting the litter next to the couch so she'd go there instead, adding another litter, changing the place of food...
A friend introduced me to the SSSCAT can. I was willing to try ANYTHING at that point (short of killing the cat or the boyfriend). And I now swear by it. The cat has NOT peed on any furniture since we've put it on the couches. Not on the carpet, not on the tables, not on the couch. NOWHERE.
SSSCAT, I love you. I owe you my life and my furniture.
Great Training tool July 10, 2008 I got this when I could take being woken up at 2 in the morning because my cat kept jumping up on the kitchen counter and knocking things over. I bought it about 2 months ago and it has retrained my cat completely. Now I can actually walk away from the dinner table or kitchen and let the SSSCat keep an eye out for me. It has a nice wide range and now just the sight of the little contraption is enough to ward away the cat from whatever trouble he is thinking about getting into. I also never had a problem moving it from one part of the house to another like some of the other reviewers because its been in constant use in at least 3 different rooms and has been a lifesaver.
lifesaver... July 2, 2008 i have a cat we adopted who pees in the corner by the back door. He ruined the hardwood there. I tried everything, boundary spray, putting a fan there, rubbing his face in it and spraying him with water...I was ready to bring him back to the shelter and this stuff saved him. Seriously I feel bad even saying that but i was at my wits end. This spray really does work and its humane. My cat jumped 5 feet in the air and did a backflip when he went near it.. I almost wish it had a camera attached ;-) it also deters them from the counter tops as well if your cats counter surf. The dog is scared of it too.
Works Great. Some other features would be nice May 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
These Ssscat sprayers work great. We had a cat that would get on our counters and insist on eating anything there. Bread would get eaten, plastic bag and all! We tried spraying manually with spray bottles, but believe me, the cat knows when you leave that it's now safe to go up there again. Lining the counters with soda cans worked for a couple of days, but was really tacky looking and then the cat didn't care about the noise and would go up there anyway.
So we bought two Ssscats and the cat has now learned (over a week or two) not to jump up there. It works great!
Some suggestions though... We always want to know if the ssscat has gone off. So I cut little strips of paper, folded them into "L" shapes and put them over the tops of the cans. The paper hangs over the spray part (not the motion sensor), so if the can goes off the paper goes flying. If we come home and the paper is on the ground, we know that the cat has been there. An LED light or indicator on the unit itself would be much better.
The ON/OFF switch is kind of backwards. Up and down would be preferable, but if it has to be horizontal, then off should be to the left (not the right, as it is now). I used a magic marker to make it more obvious which direction is ON/OFF, since it is easy for us to set them off. Again, an LED or light of some kind would be better. Of course that would run the batteries down, which leads me to my next point...
A plug-in version would be better (instead of battery power). Not only would you not have to worry about batteries, but you could arm and disarm a bunch of Ssscats by turning a plug-strip on or off (or by using a switched outlet). As it is now, we have to run and try to shut them all off before they spray us. Having a remote control on/off or remote power kill would be much better.
But all in all, they work and are worth a try for anyone looking to get their cats off the counters. Highly recommended!
