My picky cats love this stuff! January 8, 2008 I have never purchased this brand before. As soon as I opened a can of it, my cats went for it right away. I am truly amazed as they tend to be very picky eaters.
Shy at first, healthy eater now January 7, 2008 My cat did not gobble this up when I switched his diet. He nibbled at it, walked away, and ate some more. I was disappointed after reading all the rave reviews here. I know it was a nutritionally sound choice but I hoped my cat would like what he was eating too. After about 4 days, he started eating all his food, and it was such a relief to know he enjoys it. I switched him from wet Meow Mix and it may have been a sudden change from him. I am definitely looking into purchasing other flavors of Natural Balance wet foods. Oh, and I give him half a can in the morning, and half at night. I store the food in a plastic container, and in our refrigerator. There is absolutely NO smell. So, I don't know what the other reviewers were smelling. I think it smells like pate and not a strong one at that.
The BEST canned cat food (In my cats' opinion!!) December 29, 2007 Although I am placing my review under the Ultra formula this review pertains to all of the NB canned flavors my cats have tried thus far. Ultra being the one we purchase most frequently - I've also tried Venison with Green Pea, Indoor Cat Formula, Turkey, Salmon, Ocean Fish and the Duck and Green Pea. With the exception of the Duck/Green Pea, my two cats absolutely LOVE these foods! Like many folks here we have switched our two cats (both over the age of 10) from cheap dry food and the occasional cheap store brand wet food to NB. Their coats have gotten softer, they are far more content and have more energy. (I know that sounds trite but it's TRUE!) Who would have thought that the dad from Eight is Enough would become a pet food chef par excellence?? This is absolutely the best - you can tell when you first open the can because the aroma is NOT the same as your average cheapie canned cat food. The protein content is higher than most as well. Since I don't have time to grind up raw chickens I wanted to get my babies the best food available that they would actually enjoy. So far I have yet to find any food that is better than Natural Balance. Highly recommended!!!

I purchased the Ultra Formula based upon all the positive reviews here. I believe it to be an excellent product and it was shipped promptly. Unfortunately, my cats turned their noses up to it. I wound up donating the case to a local feral cat organization (minus the 3 cans my cats refused to eat).
What is an ultra? September 11, 2007 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
My cat eats other flavors of the food from this manufacturer without fussing. I mean the flavors that are not on the recall list, of course. She eats the chicken liver with gusto, loves the salmon formula, adores tuna with shrimp. This particular formula, "ultra", she refuses to eat. Not even from a freshly opened can. All that set me thinking. The names of the other flavors feature the names of edible things: chicken, tuna, shrimp, salmon, etc. In this formula we have the enigmatic "ultra". What is an ultra -- fish, fowl or beast? Would I eat it in its human grade version? I decided to stop inflicting this particular flavor on my cat. It just broke my heart seeing her run up to her bowl all hungry and eager only to sniff it and then look at me helplessly ('but this is not food, mommy!').
Again, I emphasize that my review relates only to the Ultra Formula. My cat has no problem with several other flavors.
