The Flexi is a relatively cheap yet classic lead. The quality is very good for the price. You must however buy your own animal brace separately. Once the brace is on the animal you snap the Flexi hook onto the brace. Then you use the thumb button to release the lead and the animal walks away with it until you want to stop it with the secondary stop button. The lead itself is made of some sort of a high quality fishing line type material. It is very light and yet ultra strong. The Flexi control gives you a lead that you can choose the length of. The animal will either be a way ahead of you or beside your heel without any lead loops hanging to the ground. If you want you can just leave the line on automatic and let the animal pull or shorten the lead as much as they want. The quality of the unit is sturdy and can take quite a pounding. The spring has lasted for almost a year and I can see it lasting longer. A great gimmick with these items is to tie a rope from the bottom of your garden to your house. Then slide the rope through the handle of the Flexi. Now the animal can run up and down the length of the rope outside! Make sure however that you keep it short enough so that the animal does not wrap itself around a tree or accidentally hang itself over a wall. Even though these leads are supposed to be monitored by a human I have used this method for indoor cats outside and they love it. I can now let my pet go for a run in the garden without getting lost. Make sure to keep an eye on your setup though.
