Highland pet barrier August 15, 2008 This pet barrier is functional, but not fully universal, or 100% escape proof. I installed it in a 2006 chevy trailblazer and due to the fact that the top pads do not adjust to the countour of the vehicle, I had to move the vertical poles in more, causing instability. Also, the side slide extensions do not lock and the dog could move them over and get through. I had to secure them with tape to make them more escape proof.
Does it's job July 27, 2008 this is definitely built for large dogs. A very smart dog may get by, as the horizontal bars do not lock. So far, it works for me.
Seemed like a good idea July 25, 2008 I was very excited when I found this at a garage sale brand new in the box, but immediately started questioning whether it was even worth the $3 I spent on it. I thought it seemed easy enough to put together, but when I tried going for a drive with my 35 lb puppy in the back, she was able to separate the bars in seconds and quickly made her way to my lap...exactly what I was trying to avoid. The screws that provide tension just don't seem to tighten enough to stop the bars from separating. I've thought about purchasing the extension kit so that I can put the bars really close together, but I'm not sure it is even worth it if I can't keep the bars from moving apart. Might work well for calmer dogs (my 50 lb dog didn't even try to get through- just seeing the barrier was enough for her), but this doesn't seem to be the answer for keeping determined dogs in place.
Works great in our wagon! July 16, 2008 This item is great - it fits well in our VW Passat Wagon. We have a very large dog, so we did need to tighten the vertical pipes once to keep her from knocking it loose. Easy to adjust & install, lightweight as well.
Pretty easy to put in July 7, 2008 This barrier was easy to put in. It didn't seem very sturdy at first but once I adjusted the nuts it felt pretty sturdy. I haven't tested it with the dogs yet but I'm sure it will hold fine. We just have 2 pugs. We have a Toyota Highlander and the older pug was able to jump from the trunk area to the back seat. This should work nicely.
