FURminator WORKS! May 2, 2008 Best Dog Grooming tool we have ever used. Our Shiba Inu loves to be combed with the FURminator. The Furminator has greatly reduced dog hairs in the house.
Saved my furniture! April 29, 2008 I went out and got this product after being recommended to it from a friend who has a few animals. She mentioned that her cat could sit there for hours and be brushed with the furminator.
My furniture was taking a beating of fur from my two short hair cats who are shedding pretty bad this time of year.
I brushed them both in about an hour and had piles and piles of hair when a week ago I tried a regular brush and didnt even have a small pile in comparison.
My cats hate being brushed with a soft brush and rarely sit still to be petted so it was still a chore for the wiggly little things but it was no different than any other brushing, bath, or nail clipping. I checked their scalps cause I was being very gentle and there was no irritation, so its a pretty safe product.
I am now looking online for my Mom for her golden retriever, if it did that much for a ten pound cat I can only imagine what it can do for a 60 pound long hair dog!!!!
It is the best for shedding! A MUST get for any animal owner.
Works for my cat April 29, 2008 Good tool, works great on my cat. But no matter how many times I use it, fur keeps coming out. Either the tool's cutting some fur, or my cat's really furry.
Furminator Followup April 21, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just acquired this 4/19/08. I do not spend money on impulse, and the idea of $35 for a pet brush put my hackles up and my sucker-radar on high alert. I read many of the reviews; and was surprised on how many echoed my concerns: does it REALLY work that well, is it work the cost, does it rake the skin of the animal, etc...
I used this on a short to medium haired cat that is not currently shedding mountains of fur, but enough to rub off 10 hairs or so on with each stroke. Remembering the instructions and the few negative reviews on animal sensitivity, I brushed with a very light hand, and stroked her with my hand immediately afterwards....And continued brushing this for about an hour. The cat nearly fell asleep. When she wasn't dozing and stretching, she was busy vying for new angles to be petted/brushed, or trying to lick me and the new "brush." Given some of the issues reviewers made concering sensitivity, I need to point out the cat enjoys being petting by me VERY MUCH, and will follow me around if she feels I haven't done my duty. Reading some of those reviews made me wonder if a few of those cats didn't enjoy being stroked much before the furminator purchase.
Now I did not get as much hair as the pictures, but given the lightness of my strokes and the cat's hair length, I really didn't expect piles. However, the next time I petted, I got almost no hair at all. On that note, the brush-rake fufilled its raison d'etre.
I got the blue one for my ~10lbs /~15 inch cat even though the purple was recommended. According to the furminator and other websites, the length of the blades (1.75") were the same, as were the spaces between the tines. Everywhere I looked, however, the blue one was cheaper.
A few folks recommended other sites besides amazon for price. Amazon's cheapest with free shipping was ~27.50; the local pet stores (Petco/PetSmart/PetFoodExpress) sells it for 34.99-39.99 plus our lovely 8.25% tax(not including shipping), while at least one on ebay sold for 23.50 including 2 day shipping. (Want to guess which one I picked?) In my circumstance (mostly short hair, not overly-shedding cat), I definitely WOULD NOT spend over $25 for this. But assuming the folks writing these Amazon reviews are not being paid (you wonder that when 99% are SO positive), it's probably IS worth more if you have an animal whose shedding and hair is causing grief and making house cleaning painful.
does a great job, more difficult to use on dogs with neck rolls-ie pugs. April 14, 2008 Pugs shed a LOT, for those of you that have this breed of dog. This tool works very well for removal of the undercoat. However, it is much more difficult to use on their neck area. You have to stretch the skin a bit to allow the blade to glide better. I would recommend this tool for anyone who has a pug. You will see a definite improvement.
