Scoop-Free's a Real Self-Cleaning Litterbox July 3, 2008 Scoop-free really does keep itself clean. There's NO scooping, NO cleaning! The boxes seem to work for about a month for 1 1/4 cats, (We have one indoor cat that uses it all the time, and one outdoor cat that uses it occassionally.) With the hood attachment and the litter mat, there are no litter messes all over the floor. With the hood, all the litter stays in the box, where it belongs. I've had other so-called self-cleaning litter boxes that were a weekly chore and mess to clean, inside, outside, everywhere. Scoop-free is the REAL DEAL! Only thing is, the bright purple cover doesn't really go with my decor. But you can't have everything, I guess. It's a small price to pay for a clean litterbox! And my cat loves it, too!
WORST thing I have ever purchased! July 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This product is the worst thing I have ever purchased. There is absolutely no smell control. Before I was got this automatic, I had a regular box. I could would often go 3-4 days without scooping and there would be no smell. I can't even have a fresh box for even a day! It is ridiculous! I find myself emptying the tray a couple times a day to avoid the feces smell that now consumes my apartment.
Good Product but Bad Shipping Design July 2, 2008 Overall great product but didn't make a good impression because: 1-package was delivered and when opened, the crystals were not packaged correctly and everything spilled all over the kitchen. 2-the crystals even went into the gear box and would make a disturbing grinding noise. 3-there was no customer service number provided or even a seller review feedback for this purchase
It would have been nice to get a replacement bag of crystals instead of myself having to purchase an emergency bag at the local Petco, which was not local for me (50 miles)...
Overall, the product is great but would have appreciated some more responsiblity from the seller...
This thing STINKS! June 22, 2008 I don't how people say it has no smell. It smells even with a new cartridge! All it does it puts the poo in a seperate compartment so it sits there stinking.
30 days with no scooping? Yeah right! I have 2 cats and I have t change it weekly. I would think one cat 30 days, 2 cats 15 days, etc. At 15.99 a pop thats almost 60 bucks a month it cartrdiges.
I don't recommend it, it is just as easy to scoop it myself, stinks less, and it WAAAAY cheaper!
Fresh Step makes great litter but they missed the mark on this one
Very, very happy. June 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We are very happy. My girlfriend's cat, Bogey, is an 18 lb male. It took him about 3 days to start using the scoop free litterbox. We followed the instructions, i.e. we put a cup of his familiar clay litter on top of the crystals and we left the old box dirty and nearby. This worked like a charm. I should note that Bogey is a pretty laid back dude. I previously had a cat that pooped in a shoe the first time she saw a littermaid in action. Bogey is not that uptight. We did notice more smell when he poops, however I agree with others that this is a diet issue, he prefers cheap cat food. For his long-term health, I'm going to see if I can get him to eat higher quality food. The poop is raked into the side compartment 20 minutes after Bogey is done, and then the smell is a non-issue for us. One tray of crystals lasts 20 days. I might be able stretch this if I stir the crystals a bit, especially since Bogey likes to urinate in one particular corner, which btw saturated the crystals and the cardboard box in that area. Fortunately, we PUT A NICE LOOKING DOORMAT under the litterbox to protect the floor. I emphasize this b/c those who are trying out the product should also do this to be safe. For a long term solution, I just ordered the permascoop tray. I'm sure it won't be fun washing that tray every 20 days, but in the whole scheme of things it's really nice not to have to scoop every day. Good luck with your litterbox adventure. :)
