I don't think it would scare a cat away like a traditional brush. You really have to pet them for a while, but it works, and it helps more then just petting them with bare hands. You get two gloves, which is nice. I probably wouldn't buy this on it's own, but it's a great product to buy to tip your purchase total over $25 to get free shipping. I am overall happy. Perhaps it works on short haired animals, but don't count on it for long-haired ones.
