Wee Cleaner Battles Cat Funk & Wins! July 5, 2008 We bought a house where the previous owner kept cats in a bedroom. The cats sprayed against a wall, and the urine dripped down the wall, behind the baseboard, and into (and below) the crack at the edge of the hardwood floor, onto the foundation. So we had serious cat funk that was (1) barely accessible and (2) well-aged. A sort of worst case scenario.
I tried flooding the area several times (over several weeks) with N.M., the popular enzyme product. The cat funk just laughed it off! Then I got some really bad advice from a family member to use bleach. I flooded the area with bleach over the course of several more weeks...despite nearly gagging on the fumes, the odor got much worse! (Found out in subsequent research that bleach does nothing to attack the stinky salts that are the cause of the odor, but it does re-wet the area, which causes it to stink all over again. With the added benefit of the bleach fumes, too!)
In desperation I started searching online, and almost lost hope. (One enzyme product maker claimed that if you use bleach, you have permanently "set" the stink in place forever and nothing can be done. They were of course very wrong, referring only to their own product's inability to correct a bleach'd area.) I was seriously considering tearing out the wall and part of the foundation at the cost of tens of thousands of dollars.
But I did an internet search first. I found several recommendations for Wee Cleaner, and noticed they specifically stated that the previous attempts at treatment did NOT affect Wee Cleaner's ability to work (Wee Cleaner doesn't rely on enzymes). I bought a gallon...in comparison to the price of being able to live or not live in a room of your house, I figured a risk was worth it.
I sprayed the Wee Cleaner into the crack, got all the old familiar smells going again (Wee Cleaner instructions said this would happen), but followed the instructions very carefully and waited one week before applying a second application. After the second application, the problem was solved. No smell. That's been a month ago, and never another Cat Funk smell from that room. For the first time in months it is pleasant to live in that room. In retrospect, Wee Cleaner was an amazing bargain.
My new pet cleaner June 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have 5 rescue cats and 2 foster cats, so it seems like there's always an accident to clean. With the summer heating up, my basement (and consequently the rest of the house) started smelling AWFUL. After using another "top-brand" enzyme cleaner for years with pretty average results, I thought I'd try something different with "no enzymes". I'm happy to report that I have now found my new pet cleaner. My basement smells the best it has in a long, long time. Even my daughter commented on how clean the whole house smells. I couldn't be happier.
Wee Cleaner is the best! April 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I still can't believe how well this worked! I've spent umpteen dollars on cleaners, none of which completely removed the odor. This finally did!
Our cat Simon decided that he no longer wanted to use the litterbox (he ended up having a bladder infection), and started using a spot in my daughter's room. I didn't really have high hopes for Wee Cleaner because 1) I had already used a bunch of other cleaners, and 2) the stain was now getting to be a couple months old. I poured it on the carpet, though, and it seemed like the odor was lessened right away, although I couldn't be sure. By the time the carpet dried the next night, though, the odor was completely gone. I was so happy!
I love that it has no fragrance (I hate having a perfumey smell.), and I also like that it's safe for our four cats. I plan on using it if one them has another accident. Great stuff!
