Finally something that works! November 17, 2008 I have owned, loved, bred and shown maine coon cats for over 11 years now and this is the first grooming tool that I have found to cut back on the shedding. It took some getting used to for all of us, but the end result is just wonderful. I use my medium sized furminator once a week and I no longer have to vacuum every other day! I will give you some pointers on use though: First there is some static involved and the best way to deal with it is with a damp/wet paper towel, groom and then wipe/place fur onto the paper towel and fold over to hold down the fur. Another helpful idea is to groom with the furminator about a dozen strokes or so and then follow up with a regular comb to help pull the fur from the coat and also to help with the static again. Avoid the tummy if you can, if not be sure to be gentle and go slow, whatever you do... watch the wiskars! My parents accidently got the side of their males' face and "poof" no more wiskars for a while.
Great tool November 16, 2008 This is an excellent tool. I used it on both of my dogs and ended up with a huge pile of hair - much more than a regular brush. I think pulling out all that loose hair makes my dogs feel better too. I am very satisfied with the FURminator and would definately recommend it!
Worked for me! November 16, 2008 I recently got the Furminator and I do have to say, I am amazed at the amount of hair I can scrape off my Lab mix after a couple of minutes, plus it leaves his coat super shiny as an extra perk. My dog doesn't seem to enjoy it at all though. I'm assuming it probably feels odd, as it tugs on his not-yet-detached hairs.br /br /The handle grip is sturdy and way improved compared to the last version of this product, and the switch to up-down movement, versus left to right scraping, is much more natural.br /br /The lasting issue I have is how often to use it? Once or twice weekly doesn't seem to be enough to make a difference on my floor, so consider that this may need to become a part of your daily routine to get some true value out of it.
Watch the undercoat fly! November 16, 2008 This product will really strip the remaining undercoat from the double coated breeds...meaning less hair for your floor and a new growing season for your dogs coat....just use it outside!
Furminator November 16, 2008 I did not get the dramatic results as evidenced in all the videos shown when I purchased the product, but then my dog is a short haired pointer. I was getting handfuls of hair with my old brush and she was still shedding like crazy. I tried using it after getting the furminator and that has decreased so the furminator may have some effect although she is still shedding. It is probably just something to do with her breed or maybe her thyroid is low. I will continue to use the furminator and suggest that others try it.
