Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
CatGenie, the world's only self-flushing, self-washing cat box. You'll never scoop, touch or change litter again. The CatGenie Secret?... Washable Granules, not litter. Collecting cat waste in a box of litter is unsanitary. Cleaning the mess out is unpleasant. To satisfy a cat's need to dig and cover, CatGenie uses comfy, permanent Washable Granules instead of disposable litter. To cats, it's just like using a clean litter box. CatGenie is more than a cat toilet it's a modern appliance. Every day, it automatically flushes just cat waste completely out of the home. Then washes itself clean. You never scoop, touch or change litter. CatGenie is cat sanitation that is as clean as a cat. Unlike all litter boxes, only CatGenie automatically: The GenieHand scoops and separates solids, which get liquefied and flushed along with liquid waste for safe, easy drainage out of the home.

2 out of 5 stars Great Idea, Disgusting Mess.   November 15, 2008
I purchased my Cat Genie in Feb 2008. It is now Nov 2008 and I'm fed up. The first week it started flashing an error and beeping. It didn't clean out the feces and thus cooked the feces and created a big bowl of feces slush in the bowl. After two hours on the phone and a whole lot more involvement than I wanted with the litter box, the problem was solved. The box occasionally failed in a similar manner and I had to smell cooked fecal matter for a few hours.br /br /In June, the box began giving me an error and stopping mid-cycle. No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to stop starting mid-cycle and not complete its cycle. A few phone calls, a disgusting night of taking the box apart and trying to shoot water through the hose to clear a clog that apparently wasn't even there, I finally figured out that the arm and programming were broken. I wasn't able to get a return to Amazon, nor any real help from Cat Genie because I purchased it here. So I figured out how to manually scoop the feces and run the cycle to clean the urine and litter and dispose of the scooped feces. I've been doing that for months, but today, it failed to drain the water from the tub and I've had it. I called to get help from Cat Genie. They wanted to send me all kinds of replacement parts, but I've had it with taking the box apart and touching things I never wanted to touch (getting into grosser things than simply scooping litter). I told them I was extremely disappointed with the box and don't want any replacement parts. I'm just going to throw it away and purchase a litter box that won't leave my cats holding it for hours while I try to restore their potty. This is a great idea and a failure of a product. I hope you are one of the lucky ones whose box doesn't break. If you aren't, good luck getting knee deep in vomit-inducing situations and becoming a repair-person. I wish I'd never purchased this. Waste of $400.

1 out of 5 stars WHAT A WASTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!   November 11, 2008
My husband ordered one of these machines and we rcvd it last week. I was less than thrilled but with 2 children under the age of 2 I decided to give it a chance. What a waste of money. The cleaning cycle lasts over a half hour and is loud. The sani solution which is pricey smells very strong like dollar store air freshener. oh and my upstairs bathroom gets at least 10degrees hotter when the thing is running. My cats have yet to look at the stupid thing. After reading other reviews and hearing about the clogging problems this has done it for me. This is going back after a week in my home. So not worth the $300 plus.

5 out of 5 stars Great machine, Great support   November 10, 2008
I have owned my Cat Genie for a little over a year now. I definetly get use out if it for my 4 adult cats. We unplug it at night because it is in our master bath, and it can be a little loud while we are sleeping. Because we have more cats than it is designed for, and we don't let it run for atleast 8 hours a day, it does get clogged occasionally. However it's not too bad to clear it out. I can usually unclog it in about 15 minutes with a good cleaning. We have ours In our spare bathtub, so the dog can't get to it. Cleaning out the thing when it is clogged is as hard as removing the cover/processor, and turning on the shower to clean out the rest. br /br /When we allow it to run 4 times a day, it never gets clogged. It's only when we let poo dry out all night and build up. When it scoops that much in the morning, the accumulated granules make the clog.br /br /Customer Service is excellent. I have called them several times. When we moved it to our spare bathroom, there was not enough water pressure to run it off the toilet line. So they walked me through installing it from the sink line. I have broken the little T connector twice, probably using too much pressure with a monkey wrench. They overnighted me a new one both times for free. I honestly didn't expect to recieve it the very next day.br /br /Great product, great company.

4 out of 5 stars Love - Hate. Mostly love. Great Company!   November 8, 2008
I have read the previous reviews and agree with almost ALL of them basically, the good and the bad. I've had mine for about 9 months. I've experienced the poopy water that would not drain and the unbelievably annoying beeps. I've experienced the olfactory experience of blown-dry poop with hint of perfume on many occasions. (I automatically start my bathroom fan running when I start the CatGenie) That is quite unlike any other bodily experience I have even had. The poopy water experience at, say, 2 am, is quite life-changing too while your cats are pacing feverishly to use the unusable litter box. I have three cats and all of them adjusted to it perfectly. None of them is freaked out by the horrific noise it makes while churning and disposing of cat poop. In fact, they often like to watch it in action. One in particular loves lying on top of the domed-cover (tuxedo package) while it blow dries because it's so warm. During my first non-draining water experience I called Petnovation's toll free number in desperation. The young tech support fellow was as patient and kind as I was not. He walked me through one test after another until the problem was identified. In truth I had precipitated the problem by overfilling the bowl with the granules and the water sensor got dirty as a result. Mea culpa.br /br /Since then things have been pretty good - the occasional need to clean the water sensor or remove a cat hair plug from the drain. I've learned to live with all of that for the sheer convenience of not having to lug 40 pound pails of cat litter in (and many more pounds of it used OUT) br /br /But what impressed me most is the company! First their tech support was wonderful! And most recently they engineered an improved hopper system to reduce (eliminate) cat hair plugs and water sensor problems. But what is so amazing to me is that, no questions asked, they will send it to you for 1 cent plus $5 shipping (no shipping charge at all if you're ordering other supplies). It practically reinvents the process but at virtually no cost they send you the upgrade! Just log on to their website. Now THAT is loyalty to your customers! Cheers Petnovations!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product   October 31, 2008

We have now had the CatGenie Automatic Cat Litter for about one month. Overall, so far, we are very happy with this product. We haven't had to clean anything (except see below) for a month now. I had read reviews about cats not using the litter box. We have two cats; one is pretty good and even got to the green ring (the last one) on the cat potty training thing (but then couldn't do it without pawing litter so never got past the green stage), the other cat is fairly skittish and NEVER used any stages of the toilet training, in fact, started using the ash in our fireplace as litter. Having said all of that neither cat (even the skittish one) had any problem using the CatGenie, obviously that may not be the case for everybody, but our cats had absolutely no problem and watching the CatGenie clean (which is notoriously disturbing) did NOT traumatize them, they seem intrigued by it.br /br /Decription: Dump in the pellets, put in the cleaning cartridge, hook up hoses (probably hardest part but still fairly easy), plug in and your done installing it. One word, I read a review about people flooding their apartment with this thing, I don't know how they did this, unless their plumbing was bad to begin with: turn off the water supply to your toilet (by closing the valve right by the toilet), unscrew the hose going to the toilet, install splitter (supplied with CatGenie), reconnect toilet hose, connect CatGenie hose, and your done with the plumbing. After that, just hope that your cats use it, we put out old LitterMaid in with the CatGenie, but I'm not sure if that did anything--all I now is that it took probably one to two nights before I started noticing the cats definitely using the CatGenie. To clean you can set it to go off automatically (if you're really lazy, but we just never did that) or you can just push the button to clean it whenever you feel like it needs to be cleaned (for two cats that's about 2-3 times a day for us).br /br /pros: Fully automatic cleaning (there really isn't anything else, isn't that why you're looking at the CatGenie), I mean fully automatic, no scooping up poop or anything, if it stinks just hit a button and 30 minutes later the poops in your toilet (or down your wast drain in your laundry room) and the litter box smells spring fresh.br /br /Cons (all minor things): Biggest concern Cats track the plastic pellets EVERYWHERE (which requires vacuuming or sweeping, but vacuuming is not difficult). Second biggest concern is space, so make sure you have space for this thing; it takes up slightly less space than an actual toilet (it's about half the height, but about the same girth). My wife said that the drain wouldn't fit with our other hoses in the laundry room so we have it hooked up in a bathroom to a toilet. The second con is that it seemed to leak (this is probably just our particular piece of equipment though, I'm too lazy to call since it's a minor problem, so right now we have a towel where it leaks and I plan on putting teflon tape on the threads) (I have NOT contacted customer service about this so I'm not making any claims to how they handled this).br /br /Overall: I really am not complaining at all about the CatGenie, just stating the facts, I am extremely happy with it and would say it's definitely worth the money if you can afford it (which we probably couldn't but we got it anyways). I would highly recommend this to anyone.
