5 out of 5 stars SCD Safe Yogurt starter!   October 2, 2008
This yogurt starter is very convienient. Amazon offers a better price than what is available in my area. I love that this yogurt is safe for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) (this is a digestive health diet, not a silly weight loss diet).
I store the boxes in the refrigerator until I need to use a packet. It's simple to scald the milk until it just starts to climb the sides of the pot. Turn off heat quickly. Let cool to room temp. by letting sit or put in ice bath. Skim off any skin, mix a small amount of milk with the starter until smooth then add to the remaining milk. Incubate for 24 hours according to the SCD or 4-8 hours non SCD.
Using a yogurt maker is a great an easy way to incubate. Salton & Westbend make incubators that don't kill the yogurt by getting too hot. Directions are included with the starter & with the yogurt makers!
Yogurt is healthy & many who are lactose intolerant find they can eat it! You can sweeten it, have it plain, make yogurt cheese, bake with it, ect. & it's so much better than store bought!

1 out of 5 stars Not so great   September 10, 2008

Unfortunately, the cultures I received were all dead or practically so. Luckily, I was able to salvage my milk with a combination of old cultures and some acidophilus powder I had around the house. Considering one could buy a 14 oz bottle of American Biologics' Bio-Bifidus Complex and make excellent yogurt, buying culture from Yogourmet seems a little silly and over-priced.

5 out of 5 stars The best yogurt ever   July 30, 2008

I have a Yogourmet yogurt maker and also a smaller Salton yogurt maker. I use this yogurt culture in both of them. I have been using this yogurt starter for a couple of years now. I have tried many, and this one tastes the best. The yogurt is very thick. You can use 2% milk without adding any powdered milk and it will be thick. I prefer using whole milk and the yogurt is very thick. It has a delicious flavor that I've never tasted in any other yogurt. I let mine incubate for six hours and it tastes just right. I'm very happy that Amazon is selling it now!
