You Get What You Pay For October 2, 2008 I should have remembered the old adage you get what you pay for. I admittedly was looking for an inexpensive gate and this one seemed like a bargain. The bumpers are supposed to be adjustable but they do not actually screw into the unit. They just sit in the holes so they are NOT adjustable. I finally got the item to fit into my stairwell opening (the adjustable size claim is not 100% accurate. Your space must be a size to fit one of the sets of predrilled holes the knobs fit into) and after opening and shutting the door twice to make sure it swung over the carpet, it SNAPPED RIGHT OFF! Perhaps I merely received a defective one but I can assure you that I am taking it back to my local PetCo today. Save yourself the aggravation and spend a little more to get a better product. It did arrive very quickly and was in one piece.
poor September 30, 2008 This product is just awful. It arrived cracked, which really wasn't its biggest problem. The bumpers to hold the gate in place were totally inefficient, because the holes for the pumper screws were drilled too large. I returned it immediately.
Easy to Use. Very good for Small Dogs September 10, 2008 The four pressure knob/bumper (or whatever you call it) have independent adjustment, that makes this gate easy to use and install. The height of the gate is enough for our mini doxie; you could also raise the gate a little bit (enough not to let your dog go under the gate) to get some height. however, i think if you utilize the max width of 44" the gate would be a little flimsy; but for the price it's very good and just what we needed.
The height of the gate and the no-drill easy-to-install feature i think are the selling point for me.
Works fine for the price August 2, 2008 I bought three of these to use as barriers. I have a beagle and llasa apso that like to get into the litter box and will eat anything. Out of the box, I thought I would have to return them but after installation they didn't seem to be quite as flimsy as I feared. They have held up well despite my knocking into them many times before getting used to them. Overall, they are a good alternative to the more expensive versions.
My cats are able to jump over the barriers without any problem which was what I wanted.
The little doors are cute, but I don't really use them.
Perfect for our Pembroke Corgi July 3, 2008 We purchased two of these right after we got our 3 mo. old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. We were desperate to try something after too many trips over our too-tall baby gate and tiring of adjusting the darned thing. I was worried that our bouncy puppy might be able to jump over the Four Paws gate, but our solution was to raise it about two inches (low enough so that he can't go under). We've had the gates for about a month, they're perfect and exactly what we needed! We can all easily step over it (even the kids), the cats can hop over, and we simply open the handy little gate when we want the pup to have access to the other areas.
Unlike other reviewers, we have had no problems with marring of the doorways or difficulty in adjusting the gates. Our puppy did try to chew the gate at first, but I just sprayed it with a little bitter apple and that solved the problem. We have found the gates to be well-made, sturdy, attractive (as much as a gate can be) and quite easy to use. Thank you Four-Paws for making our lives MUCH easier!
