 Metal clasps? June 27, 2008
From the info I read, I understood that the small collars were the only ones with plastic clasps, and the mediums and larges had a heavier duty metal clasp. I ordered a medium for my 35 lb basenji and a large for my 80 lb german shepard mix. They are both VERY hard on their collars, and I don't even like to get them adjustable collars because they break too easy, but I thought the metal might be tough enough, at least for a while. I was so mad when I opened the wastefully huge box Amazon sent the collars in (which was damaged) and realized that there were two collars with wimpy plastic clasps. I am very disappointed and I can't even find a phone number to call and complain!

Overall, this is a great product - very durable and overall less scratching around the collar area. The only negative is the sizing. I would suggesting ordering one size larger than you think you need if you are in the upper bracket.

I was very pleased with the quality of the collar. I purchased the small purple size for my dog. The fleece lining is very soft. So far, my dog has not exhibited any irritation from the collar like he does with typical nylon collars. The metal clasps, fit and finish are all top notch. Much better than what I have seen in my local Pet store franchises. For those people who were questioning why you do not want to use this on a tie out, *NEVER* use any type of neck collar on your dog unsupervised. It can be a choking hazard. If your pet lunges or run's at something the shock of him hitting the end of tie out can injure or kill them. A harness is much better choice for your pet if you have it on a tie out unsupervised.

Why is there a warning about using this collar with "leash or tie-out"? I do not "tie my dogs out" but would like to walk them on this collar. Is this not safe?? Does anyone have the story on this? Planet Dog will not comment on it and they do not list the warning on their website. (But the warning is on Amazon and Petsmart.)

This collar is sturdy and soft and would be great if it fit the dog. Amazon doesn't list the adjustable lengths for the medium collar and the Planet Dog site lists incorrect lengths. The label on the medium collar says that it's for neck sizes 12"-19". Since this is too large for my dog, I'm having to pay shipping again to send it back.
