Amazon.com Review One second is all it takes to yield perfectly cut fruit slices with this tool by Oxo. Also a great tool for pears, the apple divider's soft, oversize rubber handles relieve and absorb the pressure from your hands for a nearly effortless cut. Positioned at an angle upward from the blade base, the handles ensure that hands and fingers have ample clearance from tabletops and cutting boards. Stainless steel makes the blades easy to clean and dishwasher-safe. The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip, flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handle puts less tension on the hands while still providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material as dishwasher gaskets, the handles are slip-proof--wet or dry--as well as dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro

Oxo apple corer July 20, 2008 Good product design, but due to the variation in apple size and shape doesn't do the job sometimes.
a bit pricey June 14, 2008 Works fine but a bit expensive so I'm only giving it 3 stars. I got it because I had a just a few dollars left on a gift certificate and we needed a corer. Otherwise I would have gotten a much cheaper brand.
Love it! June 3, 2008 I love apples, but the hassle of the core and the juicy mess often made me pick other things to snack on (yes, I'm lazy). I love this corer. It's easy to use and clean.
The only reason I gave 4 stars, instead of 5, is because it doesn't finish the cut at the very bottom of the apple very well.
Nice gadget May 15, 2008 It is a nice thing to have for those of us who eat a lot of apples, on the upside, the plastic grip makes it easy to use, on the downside it is kind of hard to wash, even in the washing machine and also the blades could have been a little bit sharper.
Not Bad; Not Perfect May 4, 2008 Our experience with this corer/slicer has been the same as many reviewers here.
The initial trick with this device is aiming so that it actually slices through the core, rather than to one side. Since apples are seldom perfect, this sometimes requires a bit of cleverness. If the core is missed, then a small paring knife may be needed to remove seeds, etc, from some of the slices.
We have also noticed two other things noted by other reviewers:
1. The device doesn't always cut cleanly all the way through the bottom of the apple. This is probably a function of the cutting surface. Often it is necessary to pull the core and/or some of the segments through the device by hand. It is better to grip each segment and pull it through, rather than try to push on the skin at the bottom, which could lead to cut fingers.
2. The white outer ring on ours has cracked where one of the blade "spokes" meets the ring. So far this hasn't affected the unit's operation, but I am assuming that it will fail at that point some day.
The good news is that Oxo stands behind its products, and I expect that if and when this unit fails, Oxo will replace it.
All in all, a good choice for this purpose, even if not perfect. It's still much faster than manually cutting apple slices, and probably safer.
