Product Description Salter 1004 Stainless Steel Electronic Kitchen Scale
Amazon.com Review Complementing kitchens with stainless steel appliances, this simple yet modern scale is so cleanly designed that the entire top surface is the weighing platform. Measuring 7-1/2 inches square by 1 inch in height, the slim scale slips neatly into a drawer or cupboard or even stores verticallybut it's attractive enough to leave out on the counter. Food and other items can be weighed in a bowl or directly on the stainless-steel platform, which hygienically resists staining and flavor carry-over between weighings. The add-and-weigh function conveniently allows different ingredients to be added one after the other into the same bowl by pushing the on button in-between each ingredient. Measurements read digitally in precise 1/8-ounce increments for the first 5 pounds, then in 1/4-ounce increments up to 11 pounds. When switched to metric, the scale weighs in 2-gram increments up to 2 kilograms, then 5-gram increments up to 5 kilograms. Like all of Salter's electronic kitchen scales, this one features a high precision strain-gauge weight sensing system, low battery indicator, and auto zero function. Salter includes two long-life lithium batteries and covers the scale with a 10-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

Cheap June 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased a $25 Escali scale that had been rated fairly high on Amazon, but I found that it looked pretty cheap when I received it. I decided I wanted something that would look better in my kitchen, so I exchanged it and paid twice the price for this Salter, which seemed like it might be a good fit given the reviews and pictures.
The Salter does look a little better, but not by a lot. It uses a similar cheap plastic for its base. The metal measuring surface is a thin layer of sheet metal that does a lot to hide the plastic and improve the overall look of the device, but on my unit the glue binding metal to plastic was starting to come undone. The overall feel of the device was cheap. In addition, it uses button batteries instead of something you're more likely to keep stocked around the house.
I return the Salter and purchased the Oxo, which appears to be better than the Salter in every way. They're both the same price, the Oxo is higher quality, looks better, the screen is more informative, and it takes regular batteries.
Weigh To Go... June 8, 2008 This is a nice Just Works product-- you put batteries in it, and it Just Works. The square shape fits neatly into a cabinet (on edge) to minimize storage space while maximizing access.
Make sure that it is sitting on its little feet on a flat surface, and you will get excellent results.
Stainless-Steel Digital Kitchen Scale May 29, 2008 The Salter 11 Pound Square Stainless-Steel Digital Kitchen Scale is beautifully designed. It is very compact and can be easily stored in a small kitchen. It is also easy to use and accurate.
Great kitchen scale February 10, 2008 This scale works very well, is accurate, and easy to use. It easily allows tare weights, and easily changes from pounds to kilos. It is also quite compact, without any frivolous, inefficient bumps or bulges. As a result, it can easily be stored on edge, like a book. When I inadvertently dropped mine, rendering it dead, I promptly ordered another one.

Still not sure if I am going to keep it. Reasons: too small, cannot figure it out without reading the instructions. Not good.
