Amazon.com Review
Unlike many flimsier models, the Vision bagless canister vacuum from Dirt Devil rests stably on its heel or its belly and doesn't flop with every movement of the attachments. Adding to the overall sturdiness, the power nozzle and extension wands are crafted from durable metal and lock together securely. The Vision is made for a range of surfaces--carpet, bare floors, stairs, and upholstery--and features a see-through bagless dirt collection system. With no bag to change, you simply keep an eye on the collection cup and pop it off to dump it when it's full. Dirt Devil includes a pleated filter inside the dust cup to help trap debris and a separate Microfresh filter to trap 99 percent of dust allergens. Besides its powerful revolving brush roll, this model features a variable speed dial so you can clean gently or vigorously, depending on the task at hand. While some of the controls require a precise touch, they're outweighed by extras like the auto-retract power cord, ample rear casters, and 360-degree swiveling front wheel. Attachments include a hose, two extension wands, and a bare floor brush, plus a crevice tool and dusting brush stored on board. --Emily Bedard

4 out of 5 stars This little vac is awesome   April 12, 2005

I decided to buy this despite all the bad reviews, and so far, so good. I've had it about a month, and use it for everything in my home, including carpet, porcelain tile, hardwood flooring and lineoleum as well as my couch and chair and my bedspread and pillows. I'm a new homeowner, and the 4 different flooring surfaces to clean were a bit daunting until I realized that this vacuum will clean them all without having to change attachments. You can easily turn off the brush when going from carpet to hard floor, and this thing sucks up pet hair like you'd not believe out of the carpet and off the couch and chairs. I have two cats who won't stay off my chenile couch, and this vacuum is powerful enough to suck up all the cat hair. I can see where people have complained about accidentally pulling out the canister by reaching for the wrong handle, but I'm careful to grab hold of the handle on the body. It's extremely lightweight, and portable enough to tote up and down three flights of stairs to clean up after the cat litter that goes everywhere. I loved this so much that I bought one for my mother who had an older dirt devil canister vac which she loved, but had a broken strap. My favorite features are the METAL extension tubes (I've not seen those on any vacumms since I was a wee kiddo) and the retractable cord.

5 out of 5 stars Best Vacuum ever   December 13, 2004

I purchased the Vision bagless three years ago and it has been the best vacuum cleaner I have ever used. Along with the other cat owner who has reviewed this machine, I agree that it pulls out every bit of hair my cats leave. I like this machine so much that I am getting a second one to leave downstairs so I don't have to lug it up and down the stairs. Yeah, I am lazy, but this machine is worth the investment.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Suction & Two Ways To Vacuum Bare Floors   November 29, 2004

I love this vacuum!! :) I went nuts trying to find a vacuum that would work in our new home. We have hardwood floors with area rugs in most of our rooms and most vacuums I found would only work well on either the bare floor or the carpet, not both. I tried a couple of uprights before deciding to check out canisters. The uprights didn't seem to get all of the fur out of the carpets and they did a lousy job, at best, with the bare floors. The suction on this unit is amazing and it is adjustable. I have 4 ferrets and 2 cats that make a mess of our area rugs and a parrot that loves to throw his seeds all over the floor. It pulled the fur out of the rugs with one pass, after the Eureka upright I tried went over the area numerous times. It sucked the bird seed up without making the seeds fly across the floor. Although it comes with a separate bare floor attachment, the carpet attachment has a pedal that allows you to stop the brush from rotating so you can go from carpet to bare floors easily. Plus it is small enough to fit under your furniture. The dust cup is a great size. I can vacuum twice before having to empty it and it is a breeze to empty. One complaint I have is that the filter that is in the dust cup is attached which does make it harder to clean but I found that I could just take it outside, tap it clean and pull out any larger dust balls. Don't pay attention to the person who said that it is hard to tell the difference between the units handle and the handle for the dust cup. The dust cup is labeled, not to mention the handle for the unit itself is the color of the unit itself and the handle for the dust cup is the color of the dust cup. The vacuum glides over the bare floors and the carpet without any problems. I do wish that the part of the vacuum that the hose attaches to rotated but it isn't a big deal. Still a heck of a vacuum for any type of floor. I would highly recommend it. GO IMMEDIATELY AND BUY THIS VACUUM!!!!

1 out of 5 stars Not ready for sale to consumer yet, get a Breeze or skip it.   October 4, 2004

Bought this due to the good Dirt Devil name, had a Mighty Mite and Breeze before and was very happy with them both. Wanted a canister with a retractable cord. Got the Vision and was not happy at all. There is no button to lock the debris container on the unit. Numorous times it came off/loose when moving the vacuum by hand. It has a handle on in, next to the main handle, make sure you grap the right one. The Wheels are poor, the vacuum drags across the pergo and tile floor, it DOES NOT roll. The wand is hard to use in any other position then normal. If you try to use your wrist to rotate it flat to get under a table, the plastic portion that you are holding rotates on the metal wand and you can't get it to rotate with out holding the metal wand right at the 90 degree bend, which is combersome and no very user friendly. Called Dirt Devil, they seemed less then concerned. I am sending it back and will get another Breeze, or perhaps a differant brand since the only canister that has a retractable cord is the Vision. This is not indicative of Dirt Devil im my experiance, but perhaps this is the 'new' dirt devil.
I looked all around my hometown to see a Vision in person, but no dealer had one, now I know why. For the price of this vacuum, it's not ready for sale, it seems like it was still in the design phanse then rushed out their door. Get a Dirt Devil Breeze, or antoher brand.

4 out of 5 stars Great suction but cumbersome   August 14, 2004

I really love the suction power on the Dirt Devil 082600 but I find it fairly cumbersome. The hose seems to get twisted around on itself which makes it difficult to maneouver the vacuum. Also, I'm afraid to drag the canister along using the hose as it seems it may rip the hose out which means you have to keep walking back to the canister to move it foward.
