Large dog crate for two Whippets June 22, 2008 We unfolded and set up the crate very easily and quickly. The instructions were clear and simple--the construction quality good. It is sturdy for our dogs, yet light enough that we can move it with minimum effort. All details of the crate precisely matched the internet description. The crate fully met our expectations.
Also, as an added bonus, the dogs love it and its roominess. During the day, we keep an "open-door" policy, and they rest in it at their leisure. Thank you for good service!
Great Crate, my dog loves it May 30, 2008 This is an upgrade from an "Intermediate" size plastic kennel that I used for my black lab. He outgrew the old one, and I just couldn't bear the thought of having to close the door on him in it when we travelled, so I had to buy a new one. This one is very roomy, and after a few days, I've found him going to it to lay in it on his own. Dare I say he looks even cuter curled up in this one?
This crate folds flat to about 2.5-3" thick and makes for easy transportation. Because it is metal, it is a little heavy. I had to carry it down 3 flights of stairs at a hotel last week, and it wasn't fun, but it was manageable.
A little tip: if you're upgrading from a plastic kennel like I did, the metal ones are completely rectangular which means that even if you got the same measurements, it would actually be a little bigger for the dog. I probably would have been just fine with one size smaller. I'm not exchanging though -- I like that my dog has plenty of room if we need to leave him alone for a few hours some day on the road.
On a side note, the box was torn pretty badly. The FedEx driver let me look at it before signing, and the crate itself was fine. Just mentioning this so that people keep an eye out in case there is actually some damage in shipment.
Midwest 1642DD Life-Stages Folding Double-Door Metal Dog Crate, Large May 14, 2008 We have a new Labrador Retriever puppy, now 10 weeks old. They grow FAST and LARGE! This crate is an additional one to a similar one purchased a number of years ago. This one is an improvement in several ways... 2 Doors comes in handy for where you are to place the crate. Wheels to help move it around. Removable/movable divider for puppy as it grows. Why do you need this feature? Because, crate training is the way to go with a dog. A dog uses it as his "den" for your sake as well as his and is great when PROPERLY applied. A dog usually will not soil his "den" area. If too large, as when a puppy, you divide it off into a smaller space for that reason and adjust its placement as the puppy grows. Otherwise, the tendency of the pup is to sleep in one end and soil the other end. (Read all about this training method in a good dog care guide.) Collapses for easy storage and transport. Finish is a black enamel paint that is easy to clean. GREAT purchase! Only downside on all crates I have found, is that I have to replace the liner tray in the bottom eventually, and THAT replacement seems to cost about as much as an entire new crate! :( As for this purchase, I feel I got a good deal after browsing the internet and considering the gas prices to go in search of one in my area.
Midwest 1642DD Metal Dog Crate, Large May 9, 2008 We are very pleased with the crate and it's ease of use. We especially like the two doors as it really makes positioning of the crate in a room easy.
Dog Crate April 21, 2008 Surprise --- this dog crate was easy to assemble--no long pins at the corners and trying to balance the whole crate while assembling. My lab had outgrown his smaller crate and this crate is absolutley perfect for him. We cover it with towels and he loves to go into his own personal space.
