| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The Freedom Pet Pass flap design consists of a central flap together with a "U" shaped gasket piece that overlaps the frame and the flap on one side. Superficially similar to the old Johnson pet door, the Freedom Pet Pass is an updated design that seals extremely well due to a continuous magnetic connection between the two parts. This flap design is patent pending. While Johnson had a good initial idea, Freedom Pet Pass has a much superior result due to this continuous magnetic design. Play the video demonstrations below to get a good idea of how truly air-tight this pet door is. The other side of the coin, of course, is that this flap is harder to push than other, more leaky flaps. This probably isn't the best choice for an unduly timid or small dog. Nor would we recommend it for cats. The flap is made of 100% pure synthetic rubber with a canvas backing which would have better insulating capabilities than the single vinyl flap types but not so good as the double flap models available. This factor is much less important, though, that the great sealing capabilities noted above. The locking cover shown in the right lower graphics is an example of excellent design. No tracks are needed; the cover is inserted directly from the front. This feature eliminates any problems with overhead obstructions like door knobs. Once in place, the steel pin--which is very beefy--is placed in a hole in the frame and the locking cover is securely locked in position. The knob in the center of the locking cover makes it easy to handle during this process and also serves as the perfect location to hold the steel pin by it's ring when not in use. Really good design! The back side which incorporates the "U" shaped gasket piece has gone through a number of transformations. The final result, shown to the right, incorporates a polycarbonate "chew guard" across the bottom which has proven to be very effective in preventing chewing damage to the flap.
