Amazon.com Review This portable ramp from PetSTEP helps your pet overcome the prohibitive dimensions of stairs, vehicles, and furniture. To use, simply unfold the ramp and prop one end against a truck bed, vet table, or top step. Animals can walk up or down at a gentle incline, instead of struggling, jumping, or being lifted. With its sturdy structure and rubberized surface, the ramp helps reduce arthritis and dysplasia pain, lowers the chances of injury, and cuts down on back strain. The nonslip grip is compatible with virtually all edges. In addition to its primary function, the PetSTEP ramp has any number of secondary uses. With its 500-pound capacity, it's sturdy enough for humans, and separately sold accessories can convert it into a grooming table, wheeled cart, or water ramp. Designed to be rust-free and to float, the unit measures 70 by 18 inches and comes assembled. A latching mechanism keeps it closed between uses. --Emily Bedard
Product Description This ribbed non-slip surface with unique rubberized coating is safe for all pets. Simply swing open this lightweight (18.5 lbs) ramp and close in one second (no hardware or setup required). Floatable, portable and will fit all vehicles and edges. There are no materials that will trap doors. Easily washable with soap and water. A must for any boat that has 4-legged skippers!

Does what it claims April 27, 2008 We have a 9 year old lab mix who has terrible arthritis, making it tough for him to jump up into my Toyota Highlander. But he loves to go on walks. I recently pulled out my back trying to lift him up into the car (he weighs about 80 pounds), so I was looking for a solution to make it easier to take him to our local nature trails where he is allowed to run off lead. This unit works very well and I highly recommend it.
After reading review of this and other products, I chose the Petstep. There is nothing to do for assembly, although it was delivered with bracing that allows you to lock the unit in the unfolded position. It is slightly awkward to fold and unfold, but given what it is designed to do, I can't imagine any way to build it that would make it easier, except perhaps to add handles to the sides.
The unit folds and unfolds pretty easily. There is a spring loop catch to hold it closed. I don't know how long that will last, but it seems adequate. It is not so heavy that lifting it into the car is a problem. I usually put the dogs in the cargo area and then the ramp fits on the floor of the back seat.
The ramps is pretty solid when unfolded. The treads are rubberized for traction. The unit is rated for 250 or 300 pounds, so I decided to try it myself. At 200 pounds, when I walked up it, it felt a bit unstable, especially at the center. For the dog, though, it is perfectly adequate.
I did not find much merit to those who claim there is a pinching hazard. It would be odd to have your fingers placed anywhere near the crush points while folding this. And there are clear labels warning of the hazard.
Pet Step Great But Heavy March 17, 2008 I love this product. It is made well and my dogs love it too. The only problem I have is that it is a little heavy.
great product January 18, 2008 Our chocolate lab goes right up the ramp into his crate in the back of our Sienna minivan. It is long enough so that the incline is not too steep. The only negative feedback is that the spring that holds it together pops off sometimes and needs to be put back on. Other than that, it works fine.
Great Product shipping problems January 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Pet Step II is a great product. Rests on car bumper w/o causing any damage. Light enough to lift. You must be careful folding can cause pinched fingers. All my dogs adapted quickly. I had to place 3 orders to get undamaged item. Box doesn't hold up to shipping. 2 items had been dropped on a corner and broken
Extremely sturdy and useful ramp January 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was skeptical when I got this ramp that my two dogs would like to use it, or even be able to. Boy, was I surprised! This ramp is really wide, and has a great non-skid surface. The heaviness is actually a plus, because it does not move when the dogs walk up it. I led them up it every day for a few days, then just sat on the tailgate and watched them walk up the ramp on their own. No treats, they just like to get in the truck. I was surprised because I had previously tried steps, and they would not use them. But the ramp seems easy for them to walk up. Some people have said it is hard to set up and use, they are afraid of getting pinched, etc. My experience was, that I learned to use it TOTALLY automatically after a few weeks. I was careful at first. This is a very high quality, heavy duty ramp.
