Absolutely Love This Feeder! December 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My cat use to wake me up as early as 4:30am to be fed. Now that we have had this feeder for a few months it has totally changed my relationship with my cat! He no longer wakes me up in the mornings and doesn't beg me all day long for food. It took my cat about a week to get use to the noise of the dish turning. This noise last for two seconds(we timed it) and is not very loud but the cat can hear it from the other end of the house while we can't. He runs for the food at this sound now. After about two weeks the cat was in-sync with the timer. After a month he trust the routine enough to leave half his portion for a bit later. We have set the timer for every 5 hours, except of course one 4 hour. I have used a sharpie to write the times down on the top of the food dish to help keep track. I believe the person who wrote that they only used four sections for food and one empty was quite smart. The feeder is so sturdy that he can stand on it and scratch all he wants with no way to tip it over. Because it is larger then the dishes I used to use I had to change locations to under our small kitchen desk. My cat and I love this feeder!
Great product, but watch for infections! December 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this product after reading the good reviews here because I wanted to train my cat to stop pestering me before meal times. The product did a great job of that ... the cat learned within a couple of days to associate the sound of the motorized tray with food and would jump up from whatever she was doing (including a deep sleep) and trot over to eat. The feeder allowed me to disassociate myself from the feeding, and also provide two meals at exactly the same times each day, and my cat became noticeably more relaxed as a result.br /br /My cat is pretty large and is a good door and cupboard opener, and she spent the first couple days dragging the feeder around the kitchen floor trying to break into it, but she was not able to. After that she stopped trying. Even when leaving her alone for a weekend she was not able to break in.br /br /However, our problem showed up later and I wanted to warn other cat owners. A week after switching to the new feeder, I noticed a small bald spot on her chin. I took her to the vet, who told me not to worry about it. However, the bald spot grew and eventually revealed a large, nasty looking lump, so I tried a different vet who diagnosed "feline acne" and prescribed a heavy regimen of cleanings and antibiotics. At the end of the visit one of the receptionists said, "Does she have a plastic food bowl?" and we all slapped our foreheads ... the new feeder! Apparently it is fairly common for plastic bowls to cause infections on cats' chins, which makes sense because this cat had always used a ceramic bowl before.br /br /We immediately moved back to a ceramic bowl and eventually bought a Super Feeder, which comes with a steel bowl and also lets you use any bowl you want. However, now I'm $400 poorer from vet bills, and it's too late to return this product.br /br /I can't be sure the new feeder caused this problem, but she had never had a problem like this before, and the symptoms started within a week of starting with it. So, I would recommend that you try the product, but watch your cat closely for a while to make sure it is not causing any problems, and return it immediately if you see these symptoms.
Great, reliable, sturdy pet feeder December 15, 2008 I use this to feed my cat her medicine at the same time twice daily. It works reliably and it was fairly easy to program. The only cons I see are the size (it is very large!) and it is a bit noisy when it turns to feed. I would definitely recommend this!
Life Saver December 13, 2008 This is my second unit so I can extend the feeding time for my cat. Gives me more freedom to be away from home and kitty gets fed twice a day.
Excellent way to control your pet's diet! December 12, 2008 This bowl is great. My extremely overweight cat is able to have controlled portions at all times, whether I'm there or not. He has made several attempts to "break" into the bowl but no success. I have not seen any chin acne as other people have said. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to control their pet's food portions.
