Uncleanable, Breaks Easily July 16, 2008 br /I purchased this item to deal with the squirrels in my yard. It did seem to keep the squirrels away, however it broke within 2 weeks. It also was IMPOSSIBLE to clean, which makes it unsafe for birds. It lets a a lot of moisture in, and the seed at the bottom of the feeder was getting molded as there is insufficient drainage. No matter what I did, the design of the feeder prevented me from getting the clump of wet seed out of the bottom of the feeder. Very poor.
Family Favorite May 28, 2008 We have all kinds of bird feeders on our property but this one is our hands-down favorite because it keeps the squirrels at bay. It's not that we don't like squirrels. It's just that the premium seed we buy goes too quickly when squirrels are around so we try to feed them in a different area. We also have the Perky Pet 339 Squirrel Be Gone II Feeder Home with Chimney but it's been less successful in attracting birds though we don't know why. This feeder is best cleaned with a long-handled brush and in our case, we rotate between two feeders so that the seeds can dry out for easier removal. The feeders are at least three years old at this date and operate flawlessly.
guillotine April 27, 2008 Do NOT buy this bird feeder. It seemed like a good idea---until one of my beautiful Cardinals had her head in/near the port and a larger bird landed on the feeder, closing the ports---and breaking the neck of the Cardinal. I still regret so much that I bought this feeder. It is a bird GUILLOTINE!!!
Lacks durability August 20, 2007 The springs rust within the first year. Once rusted the feeder is no longer usable.
Great, but the springs are its Achilles heel June 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We have VERY determined squirrels that have attacked from every angle and given this feeder a real beating, but it works just the way they say it will. That said, we did have one particularly clever little sucker that figured out if he could get it really swinging until it went horizontal and then he jumped off, seed would spill out onto the ground. Too clever that one!br /br /It's attractive and natural looking (well, natural enough). But, the springs that control the cage mechanism will not last forever especially under heavy assault, and I can't figure out a way to try to replace them without tearing the whole thing apart. I fault it for its lack of long-term durability, but otherwise it's great.
