Holy Hair Catman!!! May 8, 2008 I never knew this much hair could come off of my cats... great product!!
Works as promised. Now get out the vacuum. May 6, 2008 Just wanted to join in the feedback about this de-shedding tool. It works great! Comes with a plastic protector for the teeth (the teeth are not guaranteed against breaking as stated on the instruction sheet). Just don't overstroke/overcomb your pets with this (you could give them brush burns/sore areas, etc.). Make sure your pets don't have sores and this thing does the job. I have three cats and one of them loves this comb. The other could take it or leave it and the other thinks it's evil. I comb them a bit at a time, twice a day for now, just to reduce the shedding on the microfiber sofa. Please don't think you can entirely strip your pet of any and all undercoat - that isn't possible and that would be kind of painful for the pet! It does help a lot on the shedding around the house. I did try to catch all the fur as I was combing the first time I used it but it really is easier just to comb the cats (no dogs here, sorry) on the rug and vacuum later. The tool definitely has a bit of heft. Yes, it's overpriced, just like most pet products, but this should last several years.
Great tool May 6, 2008 This comb rakes out the undercoat and generally makes your cats shed less, and works pretty much exactly as advertised. In a word of advice, make sure to either use the FURminator outside or when you're going to vacuum anyway since it produces a lot of hair, and if it's not cleaned up quickly, cats can become interested in it, which leads to hairballs. I've noticed that it's most efficient when used after my cats have dried out from a bath.
Despite what other reviews may indicate, if your cat doesn't like being groomed with other brushes, they're probably not going to like being groomed with this one. Also, it may be a good idea to wear glasses or something else to keep the fur out of your eyes since small bits of it will invariably float up around you. But if you can deal with the minor annoyances, you'll be much better off for using this.
Just as advertised May 6, 2008 I bought this for my two cats; one is long haird the other short haired. It works like a charm. You would be amazed at how much dead undercoat hair comes off of even a well groomed animal. My long haired cat is prone to tangles, the furminator should eliminate the problem at the source.
Not Over-the-Moon Happy May 5, 2008 I bought this item based upon the mostly enthusiastic reviews here. If I knew before I bought it what I know now I would not have bought it. I have a Maine Coon cat, and even though I started regular grooming of her when she came to live with me at nine weeks old, she has never been happy about being combed/brushed. I know; some cats apparently love it so much they will follow you around pestering to be groomed. So, grooming is a challenge anyway and the FURminator is very unpopular with Meg and also with me to a great extent. It does get out a fair amount more of hair than the regular grooming comb I have always used BUT it creates immense static electricity with the very first pass through the fur and it just keeps getting worse. The hair drifts, in spite of me, onto my arms, clothes and face and it is nearly impossible to get it to stay on the towel that I use under Meg while grooming. And, as far as the belly hair, tail hair, leg hair ---- forget about it! Not going to happen. So, when I finish using this wonder tool (ha!) I do a final comb-through with her normal grooming comb. I hoped to reduce the vomiting of hairballs but the reverse has been true; she actually is throwing up hairballs several times a week instead of every couple of weeks. So, I give the FURminator a thumbs-down. I will continue to use it because I invested too much money, even at the Amazon price, to throw it away.
