4 out of 5 stars Very nice for a couple chins!!   July 15, 2008
This is a great cage, not only for ferrets but also chinchillas. My review is concerning the fact that I bought this cage for my two baby chinchillas.

Pros:
1. The whole front of the cage is the doors. Pulling out the cage pan is easy, so cleaning is quick and not very messy.
2. The ramp connecting the two cages can be lifted up and locked to separate the cages. This is very useful for separating animals, and for cleaning. Move everyone to the top cage while you clean the bottom, and vice versa. I use this for separating my chins to spend one on one bonding time, without the other trying to escape.
3. The cage is HUGE! There is a lot of room to add anything and everything.
4. With the cage being two cages on top of each other, there are two `tops' to hang things like hammocks and swings.
5. There is a storage rack on the bottom to store anything. The only down side is it could look a bit messy. I plan on using sticky Velcro to attach a little skirt around the storage rack to cover the mess.
6. This cage is one of the better looking cages out there. No funky colors to look at.
7. This is one solid cage. The instructions were easy to read. It was a pain to put together myself, but it is possible. It would be easier for two people to put it together.
8. There is always the chance that you may want to still add another cage on top, and you can,

Cons:
1. The cage needs a few adjustments made to adapt it to chinchillas. The ramps aren't really the right type for chinchilla feet, the spacing allows chinchilla feet to fall through and their legs break easily. However, a black tube sock fits perfectly on the ramps. Also, I highly suggest buying fleece to cut and lie on the plastic shelves and weigh down with chinchillers. Or, remove the plastic shelves all together and replace with wood shelves that are safe. Plastic is highly discouraged for chinchillas, they chew everything and the plastic could cause serious harm and even death. Also, some people have reported that chinchillas have chewed the bottom pans, and those may need to be replaced. I supply my chins with enough other chew toys that aren't tempted by the bottom pans.
2. Not for chinchillas under two months of age. THEY WILL ESCAPE!!! Believe me.

It's a great cage, but I give it 4 stars as a chinchilla cage because it's not necessarily chin ready right out of the box without the few adjustments. But I would recommend this cage to anyone who is looking for a good quality cage for their chinchillas.

5 out of 5 stars The best cage for ratties   July 7, 2008
Like many other reviewers, I bought this for a rat cage and I'm thoroughly impressed. Assembly was a little tricky and does require two people, but when that is said and done you won't be disappointed. Of course, if you are using this cage for rats, you will have to cover the outside with wire mesh to prevent escaping. Cleaning is fairly easy, all the floor pans and ramps can easily be removed for washing and easily wipe clean. One of my favorite features is the swing up ramp that gives you the ability to separate the two main levels, this prevents your animal from crawling all over the surface you are trying to clean.
I also love the fact that it offers additional storage on the bottom and wheels, as I move my cage fairly often so my girls can be in the same room as me.

This cage will save you money on bedding, make cleaning much easier, and give your ratties plenty of room to play.

5 out of 5 stars My boys love their new home!   May 20, 2008
I really love this product. It is huge so my Ratties have lots of room to run around and be separate if they want.

5 out of 5 stars Great Cage   May 18, 2008

I have 2 ferrets and they love this cage. It's roomy and easy to clean. The doors and floor pans can be removed and replaced easily. The only problem I've heard about is the groove around the platforms and spacing on the steps. My ferrets haven't gotten any of their feet caught yet but to help avoid this I use tube socks to cover the ladders. The socks seems to help them navigate the metal rungs of the ladders more easily.

5 out of 5 stars A rattie paradise   April 12, 2008

What's not to love about this cage? My three boys have tons of room to run around and play. The cage is extremely easy to clean. There's lots of space to attach hammocks, toys and what ever else I find that I think the bRats will enjoy. The shelves are easy to rearrange and adjust and with the upper level, it's a cinch to lock the ramp in place and separate the sections. Talk about easy? Con the rats into the lower level, latch the ramp while cleaning the upper level. Then put the boys in the upper level while cleaning the lower. Drop the ramp when finished and voila, easily cleaned cage with no unnecessary (yet amusing) rattie assistance.

Some rattie owners have mentioned the doors being heavy, but they seem light to me. Granted you do need to be careful not to catch tails, toes or noses when closing the door, but that can be a risk in any cage. To make my life simpler in that regard I only open one door at a time to make it easier for me to keep an eye on them as I close it.

I was worried about bar spacing when I ordered the cage, but I haven't had an escapee yet. Mind you, it'd be a risk if I got a baby since my boys were all a couple months old and nearly full grown when I got this cage.

While the trio are the first rats I've ever had, over the past 15 years I've had a multitulde of ferrets. I wish this cage had been available when I had then as it would have made ownership that much more enjoyable. By and far, this is the best cage I've ever owned and with how well made it is, I can forsee using it for many years to come.
