Piece of JUNK! Can I give it a zero?!?! December 5, 2008 OK. I read the reviews... I'm not a rookie LitterMaid user... I understand it requires some upkeep. That being said....br /br /I decided to go with the older model as most of the veteran LitterMaid users suggested. I got it... set it up... turned it on... the cats came running and put a big dukie in it. It worked PERFECTLY! Whew! Then...br /br /It didnt stop running back and forth and back and forth and back and forth. The darn thing was BROKE! The carriage would not stay parked. GRRRRrr! br /br /SO. I couldnt return it until I had another litter box, so I ran to Target and picked up the NEW model. BIGGER MISTAKE! What a piece of JUNK! First, I"m not an idiot, but I had a hard time putting that darn thing together. I'm not even sure I did it right. Secondly, like most reviewers wrote, that motor couldnt move a fly let-a-lone a bowel movement. It could barely push itself through the plain unused litter. (No, I've never overfilled it... its never even been past the fill line).br /br /I returned the broke one to Amazon... had to complain when they wanted to charge me a "restocking" fee. But finally got a complete refund of my money. I'm in the process of returning the even crappier one to target... just need to go get ANOTHER litter box. My husband made me promise... no more automated litter boxes. Man I'm disappointed!
Not Elite February 18, 2008 Littermaid Elite is not so great. For the price I am still scooping out.br /Takes too long too sccop out and does not scoop out everything. I have a small dog and by the time the rake starts working the dog has already gotten into the box. Rake should be made longer to scoop out everything.br /
Elite isn't so Elite to me! November 28, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had Littermaid boxes for years now and when one of my old style beige series broke, I thought great, it lasted years, I will get another one. I couldn't find the old style at the store, but saw the Elite with the timer and ionizer and thought-cool I will try it.br /br /YUCK!br /br /I am going to go buy one of the older series to replace this. It doesn't scoop well and my rake does get stuck on the return path. I checked and there is no litter beneath or on the tracks that would cause it to stick. I nudge it with my finger to lift the rake portion and it seats fine. Who wants to have to manually push the rake each time? Okay, so it doesn't happen EVERY time, but enough to be annoying. It is also louder than the others I have.br /br /Go with one of the 900, 700, 600 or 500 series depending on size you need. They last years and are built better! Still many available, I just needed to look around for one (my fault for being lazy). Amazon has a lot of the old style, so I am going back to the old style and pitching the Elite.
Great option at first, motor seems to lose power after a while January 14, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
03/29/2007 update: OK, I have had this for a couple of months now, and I have started to see the problems other people have mentioned. The rake is not powerful enough to take the waste to the disposal container and I end up scooping it like a normal litter. I also purchased the larger size at the same time and that one has not had this problem. Either that one has a different component or the quality control of these and deviations in production make the power behind the motor really variable depending on which unit you get. Buy the small size at your own risk. I would downgrade this to a 1 star at this point but they don't have that option once it's submitted.br /br /Previous Review: I used to have the old model over 7 years ago when they first came out, but the rake was not detachable and made cleaning very difficult.br /br /One of my 4 cats is very picky about her litter and I decided to give this new model, which easily detaches for cleaning, a try. I have had it for a week with no problems (and this with 4 cats).br /br /I have left the old litter boxes (2) just in case, but they seem to prefer this for the number ones. I think they like deeper fill for number twos, which is one negative, you can only put in the litter about 1 1/2 inches deep. br /br /So far no problems with the rake getting stuck, although I think I might get a mega sized one next since it seems a little short where they are always going right at the very end in the corner.
