Pain Relief for elderly pets! January 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This product is wonderful for older pets with pain issues. I bought this pet bed warmer several years ago. My cat was then 18 years old and starting to have problems with arthritis & other normal age-related problems. She loved to crawl onto my heating pad when I would get up from my chair and I knew this could not be good for her - too hot. I found this one and am really glad I did. She loves it and my vet reinforced my thinking that if heat helped my pain, it would help hers. We talked about it again just today and she asked me if I still had it and told me to keep using it. I replace it every couple of years as the heating element can cause static in the radio and non-cable hooked up TV when it's been on a long time. This seemed to indicate a loose wire somewhere in there, making it best to replace it before there is a problem. It also keeps cat warm in the winter when she might be in a cold draft - elderly beings are always cold. Great for mothers and kittens, too!
Be sure you have the proper "container" - a pet bed you can insert it IN and CLOSE UP - putting a towel over it is NOT good. They should not be able to EVER lie on it uncovered or have access to the wire! I always put something thicker over it that the thin padding that comes with the fleece backed cover that can be purchased for this (comes with the heating element and the washable cover) and make sure there is a folded small blanket underneath it between it and the chair or bed or floor to protect the fabric or carpet.
I have mine hooked up to a GOOD UL Rated power strip on a nearby table, so I can easily turn it off by just flicking a switch, not bending down and unplugging it. Elderly pets often belong to elderly owners! I do find if it's on and the cat's been lying on it for a long while, I think it get's hotter than 102 - but that's just me. This is a great product! Your pet will love you for buying it.
