Gets Stinky Fast! July 27, 2008 First off, the cats do love it and took to it very quickly. They better! Because essentially it costs them more to poop then it does my whole family. The downside is, cost and it hasn't kept me from needing to empty out the poop every 2 days. I have 2 cats with big butts and they poop a lot, so I still have to clean it out, once the poop gets raked away. Otherwise, it gets VERY STINKY! This whole "walk away for 15-30 days" is, well I'd say, misleading. The good news is -- they aren't stepping in it and tracking it across the baby's face, like in the old litter box. Makes it worth it!
Way too many good reviews July 24, 2008 We have two brand new kittens. I also have a dog that likes to dine out of the litter box. For this reason, I thought an electric box made sense. The mess would be scooped away before the dog had a chance to get to it. The first time one of the kittens used it, the smell was horrendous. I waited an hour hoping it would dissipate. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I had to scoop out the one poop, dispose of it outside immediately and light a match. I can't even imagine what the smell would be like with multiple messes in the box sitting for weeks. Maybe the other reviewers have olfactory issues and suffer from anosmia (an inability to smell). I cannot recommend this product.
This automatic litterbox works! July 21, 2008 I bought 2 for my 2 cats, and to my amazement they took to it, and this product works. I hated the clay, and other previous litter and the horrible dust that they all have.
I read other reviews here on Amazon and bought the FOREVER Litter Tray - Scoop Free cartridge replacement from Rick on Ebay and that eliminates for the replacement cartridges. This FOREVER Litter TRAY is made from PVC plastic for this brand of litter box, and you just get rid of the crystals once a month by putting the "contents" into your trash bag. So if you don't want to buy and pay for replacement cartridges, this is a wonderful alternative.
It got rid of the smell and the work because this product rakes the "stuff" in about a minute, and waits until the cat has left the area which is about 20 minutes later. I can't believe it took me 20 years of the other litter box methods to finally pay about $100 and $60 for the PVC tray, to get a little device that takes care of this horrible job that I hated.
For as long as the cats liked it... July 15, 2008 For as long as the cats liked it, this litter box was great. After about 6 months though, they didn't like it anymore, and switched back to the regular old litter box. Obviously I should have gotten rid of the old litter box! I'm going to try again, though.
Love it sorta July 12, 2008 After 16+ years of cleaning out kitty litter, I finally broke down and bought the Scoop Free automatic cleaner. I'd read several reviews on different kinds of automatic cleaners and decided on this one. From Day 1 I loved it! It was easy to put together, plug in and voile!! However, contrary to the 20-30 day tray replacement "promise", I barely get to two weeks (14 days) before the wash room starts smelling like urine (at 9 days). I keep the door closed for the most part and am pushing the replacement trying to get to 20 days-- right now I'm on day 15 and I think I'm going to replace it tomorrow. Can't deal with the urine smell. After she poops, the smell lingers for a few hours before it disappears. However, at this point, I am so fed up with cleaning her litter box, and her advanced age, that I figure I'll pay the extra for the convenience. Although at about $17/tray, this is quite a luxury! I cannot imagine having two cats with this.
