With so many other hassles to worry about, a gate should be worry-free and easy. Using the simplicity-by-design approach, the Evenflo SimpleStep pressure gate makes cordoning off stairways and rooms easy as cake. The pressure-mounted gate takes 20 minutes to install with no tools needed and is much easier than its wall-anchored counterparts. Once you install the gate, the most difficult part is over. The walk through door employs a squeeze, slide, and swing action that can be done with one hand. The red/green gate indicator tells you when the gate is properly locked. Be sure to measure your doorways before purchasing--the Evenflo gate is made for either 29-inch or 39.5-inch (with the included extension panel) openings, and the pressure mounts give you a tiny bit of slack. The Evenflo SimpleStep pressure gate is 30.5 inches in height, and the manufacturer recommended age use for children is six months to two years. --Scott Teal

This gate is easy to assemble and install, and built to last. The instructions could be a bit clearer as far as describing the "splay" built into the gate opening. This closes up at the top as you apply pressure with the clamping pads. My tip is to tighten it up until the latch will catch, then close the gate and keep tightening the pads until the small indicator window just turns all green. Our two dogs like to rough-house and have torn up two gates (a wooden one and a metal one) but they'll never make a dent in this one. In fact they have stopped trying. This is a quality product; I'd be very happy with it if it cost $80 or $90.

I installed two of these in about 5 minutes each. I'm not sure why people complain about the instructions. It clearly explains how the pressure bolts/knobs work, and that the top of the gate doesn't mate until the pressure bolts are extended against the door frame.
Also, the gate opens easily with one hand. If you can't open this gate with one hand, you need to eat your spinach, because you are one weak sailor. Or, perhaps those having a problem aren't doing it right. One needs to simply squeeze the buttons on both sides of the handle, and slide it away from the frame. And...Voila! (Pardon my French.)
The price is good too. Especially with the extension. (Other brands charge extra for that.) Need a gate for your baby or dog? (or baby dog?) You won't go wrong if you buy this one.

One of the big advantages of this gate is that it is pressure mounted and can be put up and moved without drilling any holes in the wall. It is sturdy and tall. I bought this to contain my beagle puppy which could jump over my wooden gates to get up the stairs. This fit the bill. I can open it with one hand just took a while to get used to.

Our little one loves to shake it and it doesn't move! I had only tried plastic or wooden gates before and was not that impressed. This metallic gate is the best!

As mentioned by another reviewer, the box to this gate advertises that it will fit a range of 29" to 37.5", but there's actually a 1.5" range (33.5" to 35") that it won't work for. Since this is nowhere advertised, I bought the gate for my 34" doorway between the kitchen and the dining room, only to discover that I had acquired useless equipment. In order to discover this, however, I had to remove all the packing materials, and now I can't even return the thing. This is like buying food prominently labeled on the front, "Contains Absolutely No Peanuts!" but buried in its ingredients list on the back, in small print, reads "peanuts." False advertising.
So, being a reasonable person, I called Evenflo's customer service line. I thought that perhaps someone there would have recognized that false advertising is bad for business. Instead, a surly, condescending, and wholly unhelpful person told me, amazingly, that since the 1.5" gap in the range was not a design flaw, Evenflo would not do anything to help me. When I protested that the box clearly states it will fit the whole range of 29" to 37.5" she replied that what the box said didn't matter, since the instructions (actually, just the parts list) INSIDE THE BOX accurately indicate what doorway sizes the gate will and will not fit. Then, when I asked if any gates *would* fit my 34" doorway, she told me I had to go back to the store and talk to a sales representative there.
I will never buy another Evenflo product again.
