This is a pretty sturdy gate but getting it to hold in place is not good. There is a bar in the middle that you adjust the width of the gate to get it between two walls. But if your space doesn't fit the notches on the bar, it is too loose and a pet that jumps on it can make it fall. It would have been better if the pressure pads were attached by say 2-3 inch screws that you could use to adjust it even more by tightening or loosing the screw. Found such padded screws at hardware store but I got too small a size (1 1/2 inch). Need to get a bigger size. Works good if you put a kitchen chair on each side to hold it up and use the pressure against the wall. I don't recommend it for animals that would jump on it or try to force it down unless you find a wall to permanently attach/hook it to the wall some how. Say a hinge on one side an a hook/clip on the other wall side.
