Can't see it working, but it does April 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was skeptical at first. Living in dry southern California, I've had a hard time CREATING, nevermind maintaining humidity. But the Tropicaire delivers on it's description. Unlike a cool mist humidifier that emits a stream of visible water vapor and can raise humidity to over 90%, the Tropicaire doesn't even look like air is emitting from it. However measure the RH (relative humidity) and it does maintain between 50-60% which is better than I was able to do with constant hand spraying. Plus there's the added benefit of circulating the stale humidified air. I'd give it 5 stars if there was a way to control the amount of humidity produced. Although you can purchase different air pumps and valves to control the air flow into the unit, it doesn't seem to affect the amount of humidity it's able to create. So if you need over 60% humidity, I don't think this would be enough.
Works as advertised January 14, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I use a tetra whisper air pump with this product. The humidity was around 30% before using the TropicAire and now it's at 50-60%. I think it could be increased if the entire enclosure was covered as it is only partially covered now.

I haven't used the pump yet, but it just came in the mail. It would be great if the description had told me that the stupid thing needs an air pump bought separately to actually make the thing run.
