trapped cat October 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This door seemed great. I had to work with my cat for a while to train him on pushing the plastic flap, but eventually he got it and it was working well. I use it to connect a window on a closed in porch that has his kitty litter in it, to the kitchen. If I keep the kitty litter in the house, the dog will eat it. After he had fully mastered the system, I then went away overnight. When I returned, I found a very traumatized, upset kitty trapped on my back porch. In his travels back and forth, he had loosened the small piece of plastic that locks the flap. He hadn't been able to return back into the house and to his food and water. I promptly broke off the piece of plastic that allows it to lock; it's simply not a safe product with it.
Good Product September 30, 2008 The installation was fairly quick and easy. I installed 2 in less than 45 minutes. I would have given it 5 stars if the back of the door screwed in like the front. The double sided tape is holding so far, but I'm sure the tape will eventually fail and the back side will fall off.
Maybe It's My Cat's Fault September 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
She isn't the brightest cat around. The whole reason I got the cat door was so the cat could get out of my bedroom without waking me (she would make a whole bunch of noise at 4AM) but not be able to get back in unless I want her in. br /br /I ended up doing quite a bit of modding to the door to make it quiet. At first, she would just paw at the flap. This would then smack back down and make a ton of noise which defeated the purpose. Now I have the flap smack into padding instead of hard plastic.br /br /It's not a horrible door. It doesn't jam or anything like that.br /The side that is not held on by screws did fall off like other people had said. I really don't care though. For reference, I did install it on a hollow door.
Basic Cat Door Satisfies Owner and Cat Alike August 29, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The installation of this was a little bit of a nail-biter... I mean, you are cutting a hole in a door, and in this case, my bedroom door. br /br /It went smoothly, and installed in under 30 minutes. br /br /My cat is not a true fatty, but on the husky side, weighing in at 15lbs, but he fits through this door without a problem - sometimes at a full gallop, which is kind of crazy to watch. One minute he's there, running at this small hole, and the next... PLOOP!... he's gone. br /br /The one downside is that there is no liner that comes with the kit to seal the interior of the door, which might be an even bigger problem had my door been hollow. I recommend using some black duct tape, or gaffer's tape to just ring the interior cut of the door before finally installing the two frames (one on each side of the door you're cutting into). br /br /This door is basic, and made of plastic, but works as advertised and has already saved us hours of sleep when we would have had to get up to let the cat in or out, as his fickle will dictated at all hours of the night. br /br /I'm a happy customer!
Decent, low cost cat door August 26, 2008 I purchased this to install on my laundry room door. For the price, it does its job well. The only thing I wish it had was a interior shield for installing in hollow doors. I had to fabricate my own so my cats wouldnt get snagged.
