Product Description
The Innotek Indoor Zone is is used to keep pets out of certain areas in your house. The round disc like transmitter runs on 3 AA batteries and has a running life of about 6 months. Simply place the Innotek transmitter where you don't want your dog to go and turn it on. While sitting there the transmitter will broadcast a celebrity FM radio frequency in the range you set it to. Your pet will wear a collar that will deliver a mild correction when it comes into this signal range. When your dog first enters this range he will receive an audible tone followed by mild stimulation that will increase the closer he gets to the transmitter. These New Innotek Wireless Transmitters can be put anywhere, in a plant, next to the front door, hanging on a wall or in the coffee table drawer. Whether it is hanging, standing or laying your pet will not be able to dig in your plants, run out the front door when guests arrive or beg for food at the dinner table. You can use as many collars and transmitters as you need. Solve frustrating pet problems with expert ease! Put an Innotek Zone near anything you want your dog to avoid, the trash, kitchen counter, dining room table or protect your fine furniture. Simply select the area, set the Zone's protection coverage area between 1' and 10' feet in diameter, fit Innotek's exclusive comfort collar to your dog and enjoy your pet free zone!

5 out of 5 stars Great product   December 21, 2007
This is a great product! I have a 135# Bloodhound that is 28 inches at the shoulder and can easily rest his head on our counter. I set the base unit on our kitchen island and the warning beep and shock is enough to keep him away from the counters. I keep the collar on him from 5:30 PM to about 11:00 PM when he goes into the bedroom with us and he wears it every day.

I read the reviews about the battery and the range and I agree about the range, but for me the limited distance is perfect as I only need about 6 feet of range to be effective. I disagree about the battery life though.

I purchased two collars and one base unit about three years ago and used it for about 3 months to deter my dogs from the cat litter box housed in the laundry room. The two dogs wore the collars daily while in the house for approximately 4 or 5 hours a day. I then put the units away as the dogs stopped trying to get to the litter box. Then three days ago I got the collars out again and guess what...battery is still hot and when I tested it against my skin its shock was enough that I could not keep it against my skin for more than a few seconds. So far it is still working and seems to be very effective.

I would make sure to use the highest quality battery possible..I checked the collars and mine are energizers. Maybe the one reviewers unit is defective causing a shortened life?

I plan on buying another base unit to keep the dogs off my son's bed as they have tried to make that their new sleeping area.

3 out of 5 stars Doesn't Work on Cats   August 6, 2007
We saw some information that this would also be effective for cats. Don't know about other cats, but none of our cats seemed to even be aware of it. No reaction whatsoever.

2 out of 5 stars Need to improve their Zones system!!   August 20, 2006

I bought Zones for my dog who likes to bodyslam our back door, and for counter surfing. I think the Zones idea is an excellent one; however Innotek needs to make some major improvements.

Pros:
1. The concept is great. Even if you're not in the room, your dog can receive a correction for misbehavior. This is important so that the dog knows it shouldn't do the behavior when you're not around.
2. The collar is lightweight and the prongs are rounded, so it's more comfortable for the dog.

Cons:
1. The batteries in the collar don't last long at all(two days, maximum). And since they cost $4 to replace, that adds up. I haven't replaced the batteries in the round transmitter yet. I've replaced the batteries in the collar 6 times, and I've only had this for 3 weeks.
2. The shock level should be adjustable. My dog only weighs 45#, yet she thinks it's worth the shock to get what she wants. It's just not uncomfortable enough to completely deter her.
3. My dog has also figured out that when she's not wearing the collar the rules don't apply. Although if the collar would last longer, she could probably get the idea after long enough use.

My sister-in-law has the Innotek FS-15 Remote Trainer, and hasn't had to replace the battery in the collar yet(over a year). This is with frequent use. I think going to the smaller, flat batteries was a bad idea. They just don't last long.

My advice: If you have cats or small dogs, this might work. Or if you have a dog that isn't very smart. Otherwise, save your money.

4 out of 5 stars Works ok, range sucks, but it does keep my cat away from protected areas   April 24, 2006

I would have given this thing 5 stars if the range worked like they said it would. I put the range up to its max and placed the disc in my family room so my cat wouldnt scratch on the couches and eat my tree.
The cat should have heard its collar beep at 10 ft from the disc, but its able to get within 5 ft of it.
The GOOD NEWS is, I havent seen my cat in the room since I got this thing working correctly ! Yay. I've seen it attempt to walk into the family room, but it hears the beep and immediately backs up. Now it barely gets close to the room
A word of caution, if you dont think this is working, adjust the collar to me more snug. I thought it wasnt working at first, but the collar just had to be slightly tighter to shock the cat through its thick fur.

4 out of 5 stars Great Product - But things you should know before buying   January 18, 2006

The zones work great, within the limits listed below.

Good Points
1. Has a A, B, and AB setting which lets you control individual dog access to areas or objects (such as separate food bowls for special diets, rooms, etc)
2. The shock is mild but definitely uncomfortable (I tested it on me before I used it on the dogs). It is milder than the strong static shocks I regularly get around the house.
3. The dogs quickly learn to avoid things that cause shocks.

Limits
1. Collar wear is recommended to be limited to 12 hours due to rubbing by the stud on the neck. This can be a problem with intelligent dog and schedules requiring longer wear times. Intelligent dogs can quickly learn that the collar is the source of the shock and can wait until they are not wearing it to get into the forbidden.
2. The range increments listed (2-12 ft) are not dependable. I find mine, with direct line of sight, is half that or less.
3. The six available range settings are not enough. There are times that 1 or 2 ft increment is too much.
4. Area of affect is spherical. Keep this in mind when deciding where to use them. Depending on the range setting, just walking by the counter or under the table can set them off even if all you intended was to discourage Fluffy's nose from appearing on the counter/table top. The only way to alleviate this is to find some way to dangle the zone from the ceiling to correctly limit the reaction area to those 3 ft off the floor.
