Be careful of alergic reactions December 3, 2008 I had used this on both my dogs. About the 4th time, my pug/westie mix started jerking towards her hind/tail area (I had put most on the back of the neck and a small portion at the base of her tail).Since we had used this product before, we first thought she had hip or back problems so took her to the vet and specialist. After $1500 and 4 trips to the vet, including major pain medication she was better after a few days so assumed it was just a joint/back/hip problem that got better. The next month, right after using Advantix again, the same thing happened which led to the obvious conclusion it was an alergic reaction. I wished I had known it could be washed off with dish soap (per the earlier review) because she had to spend another 2 days until she stopped reacting to the treatment.
right price December 2, 2008 I tend to buy this through amazon because the price is good. I've been using it for 3 years on my dog with no problems. If we have visitors within 24 hours of applying the product we do warn them not to pet the dog, except on his head or belly. Our pup is flea free! If we find ticks on him, it's normally because we were late in applying this month's dosage.
K9 Advantix -- Recommended Seller!! August 13, 2008 I've used this product before with good results. The shipping was faster than expected and at a competitive price. A caveat: they are with 100 miles of my location. I love my vet, but their price for this product is too high. Thanks for the great deal. Leonard (dog) thanks you too.
Very Happy with the product July 2, 2008 I have 2 boxers and 2 cockers in which I've used this product on them since it came on the market several years ago. None of my dogs have ever had an adverse reaction. I only use the recommended amount and dosage. I believe you get into trouble when your splitting tubes according to weight- they put that information out for a reason. The product has been very effective keeping fleas, ticks, and mosquitos at bay. Very pleased with the product!
My dog almost died! August 21, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I used K9 Advantix because I was bringing my dog with me on vacation into tick-infested woods. I used three-quarters of the 20 lb. dose on my 13 lb. poodle. Approx. 12 hours after application, she began to have terrible neurological symptoms, running in circles and crying, jerking and jumping. Her nose became very hot and her breathing became rapid and shallow. We were up all night. By the time I got instructions over the telephone to wash it off with liquid dish detergent, it had been 24 hours. She survived, but the cartilage in her throat has been damaged and her bark is permanently changed. If you are using this product for the first time, PLEASE use only half the recommended dose and standby with the liquid dish detergent. If your dog can stand it, you can apply the rest two days later. The only antidote for permethrin poisoning is to wash it off with liquid dish detergent within the first 24 hours! Many dogs have been injured, and deaths have been attributed to K9 Advantix. If you feel you must use it, first read the horror stories on the internet. Bayer Animal Health should have included on the box instructions on how to wash it off with detergent if there was an adverse reaction.
