The business end of this hand pushed reel mower is solid, sharp, and easy to use, with five heat-treated, knife-sharp tempered alloy steel blades that can be adjusted for varying grass heights from 1/2 to 2-1/4 inches. With its 10-inch wheels, radial tires, 18-inch cutting width, and 2-inch welded shrub bar, this mower should enable you to cross whatever terrain and reach whatever hard-to-access rogue patches of grass you desire. Plus, the soft foam cushion on the handlebar is a nice -- and much appreciated -- touch. However, assembly can be a headache, even though the only tool you need is a wrench. The instructions could be clearer, and the handle parts could fit together better. This product is backed by a limited 2-year warranty.

Not great, but useable August 14, 2008
Handle bolts together, so it flexes more than it should. Presumably the handle is manufactured of multiple pieces so it can be shipped from China in a small box.br /br /It cuts well (short grass only). For long grass and/or weeds I gas-up my power mowers.br /br /

This lawnmower works well, but I'd only recommend it for small yards. Also, the handle bars could stand to be more sturdy.

I bought this lawn mower in May 2008 to use as a supplemental mower. I use a Black and Decker 24-Volt Cordless Electric Mulching Mower as the primary mower for my half acre lawn, but I frequently run out of battery power before I complete the job. br /br /PROS: br /Easy to assemblebr /The mower is very light and easy to push br /Cuts the lawn razor sharp - - beautiful cutbr /Quiet - - don't have to wear hearing [ear] protection br /No need to go to the gym. This is a great workout. br /One of the best "eco-friendly" tools I havebr /Overall, good investment for the pricebr /br /CONS: br /Does not cut long grass well - - best when used if the grass is no longer than 3-4 inches high. br /The handle seems a bit flimsy in design.br /Pick up larger sticks before cutting the lawn, otherwise the blades may get stuck and the mower will come to a sudden stop. Can be difficult to push afterwards. br /You will spend a longer time cutting the lawn with this mower [but it really is fun!]br /br /RECOMMENDATIONS:br /Use for a smaller lawnbr /Don't use on wet grassbr /Don't let the grass get too long [mow more often]br /Keep the blades sharp [buy the sharpening kit]br /Great mower to have as a supplemental mowerbr /Smile when cutting grass, because I can guarantee you will be getting a good workout! br /Your heart will thank you and the planet will thank you as well!br /

I coudn't be more pleased with this mower. It is a great value for the money. It is easy for an 84-year old lady to use. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it does not do very well on crab grass.

I replaced a gas mower that was taking me some 100+ pulls to start and then would flutter back and forth - so I was ready for anything else. With the American Lawn Mower Company 18-Inch Reel Mower #1815-18, here is what I have now (comparing to both gas and electric mowers I have used):br /br /- mower that cuts cleaner br /- mower that cuts high, thick, St Augustine grassbr /- mower that weighs lessbr /- mower that stores in 1/4 the spacebr /- mower that essentially runs quiet (little noise, but nothing compared to gas)br /- mower that does provide exercise (not any more than a normal push mower with a grass catcher attachment)br /- mower that is very maneuverablebr /- mower with $0 in oil or gas or spark plugs or filters or etc.br /- mower that does not spew forth fumesbr /- mower that mulches br /br /It does have some drawbacks - it will get caught on twigs and such (but they are easy to pull out by rotating the blade backwards with your foot) and it won't mow by pulling (you can only mow going forward).br /
