Must be used on somewhat intelligent dog(s) for it to work... January 6, 2009 Oh boy, did I have high hopes for this product. After listening to the neighbor's young white german shepherd bark at everything that did did not move, I finally broke down and bought this with some reservations. Now, we're talking about a measly 10 feet or so from unit to dog, and all it did was get the dog's attention. That's it. Barking did not decrease in any way. However, in talking to a vet about its effectiveness, he did say the dog's intelligence does factor into it (smarter dogs will understand cause effect; e.g., if I bark, this will happen). I sure wish I had known that before because this dog is untrained, non-obedient, and dumb as a post. Caveat emptor...
Husband set off first..... January 6, 2009 Have not fully tested yet.br /I did have to call to find out the full range of this unit. For those interested it covers 150 degrees in a cone shape. br /We set up and turned on unit (all very easy).br /We were outside with both dogs and my husbands cell phone rang. He answered in a rather deep "HELLO" and I see my 30lb Rat Terrier heading toward the doggy door growling.br /Obvously he heard something. My husbands voice must have set it off.br /I bought this item after a friend at work recommended after he bought one to deter his neighbor dogs from barking. It does work although he said he has had to replace the battery after only 1-2 months and wishes it was a plug in unit.br /
The dog next door is still barking January 6, 2009 The dog next door is still barking. Little or no "improvement" in reducing the dogs barking. Unit is located less than 10 feet from the barker.
Worth the Money!!! January 4, 2009 After much research and reading some horrible reviews, I decided to take a chance with this product anyway. I have a Dachshund, Shiba Inu, and a Chihuahua. The only one that doesn't stop barking immediately is the Dachshund. Usually she'll stop after about 3 or 4 barks though - which is a huge improvement!!!! She taught the other 2 to bark. I do use this indoors instead of outdoors. The best part is, I'll turn it on only when they start barking, or when I anticipate company soon. Once they see me go to the birdhouse, they magically become model dogs. br /br /It seems everyone is having a different experience with this product, but if you are desperate for some peace and quiet, I would recommend this product.
Has changed our lives! December 30, 2008 We have four dogs so, based on the other reviews, I thought we'd get results with at least one or two of them. Our dogs would stand at the fence and bark when we left the house and again when we came home - annoying to us so I can't imagine what it was like for the neighbors. This started working immediately. Our beagle (obviously the biggest problem) got out one *woof* and went running back into the house. The only dog it hasn't affected is our 14 year old because I don't think she can hear it. The only downside is that any really loud noise will set it off and we live near a busy street. So I turned it off once they were reconditioned. After about a month of having it off, the beagle started barking outside again but I just turned it back on and, after half a "beagle bay", she came running back in. Now I just need to find something similar for inside and we'll be good to go. I wish we had gotten this a long time ago!
